I believe the Humber Works was in operation way after 1907. My father worked there as a young man and he was born in 1902. He eventually moved to Coventry with them but I think that was in the 20's. He returned to Beeston to run Wood's Greengrocery store on Queens Road for 45 years. (Leslie Wood)
Have mentioned a the two international-type grocery shops as specifics were "local shops" are mentioned because I thought they might be of specific interest to some people and they are slightly unusual on such a small shopping area. A Geek Tragedy 17:10, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
The Environment Agency have flood maps available on their website [1]. These show Beeston Rylands to be at a higher risk of flooding than the rest of Beeston. Therefore the statement that an anon IP keeps removing without explanation appears to be correct and I will restore it everytime until I get some sort of explanation for it being deleted. Isn't Paul Smith (fashion designer) from Beeston? Can you confirm, Beeston natives? Notreallydavid 02:21, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, according to http://www.englandseastmidlands.com/News.aspx?ID=150 he himself confirms that he grew up in Beeston. Elsewhere I found (via a Google) a reference that he attended Beeston Fields Secondary Modern School for Boys. Sladen 07:39, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Many thanks - I've put a note to this effect in the article. Notreallydavid 17:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Chimney: I can confirm the existence of a tall chimney on the North side of the ex-mill (now flats) on Wollaton Road, but I can find no reference to it being the tallest domestic chimney anywhere. Citation anyone? (C P Martin, Beeston)
The Black & Gold bins and street furniure is a Nottingham thing, (Nottm City?) I don't think it has anything to do with Beeston per se or a connection to bee colours —Preceding unsigned comment added by Visionset (talk • contribs) 14:19, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Light Poluttion
[edit]It is mentioned "The lighting installed at the time of a 1980s refurbishment of the square contributes to local light pollution.[citation needed]" but I was unable to find any sources for that statement thus I removed it . If anyone knows about this he can add it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loneather (talk • contribs) 20:08, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]Based on the purported etymology "bees + -ton" one would expect the pronunciation [ˈbiːztən], but it's actually [ˈbiːstən] (unvoiced s). The only source I have for this is my own experience (I used to live there). Hairy Dude (talk) 12:44, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
Imperial Tobacco
[edit]Hi. The Article says that Imperial Tobacco was in Beeston. If this mention is referring to Horizon, Horizon was located at Lenton - not Beeston. Horizon has now, of course, closed. (How do I know? My father was on the original Horizon management project team and also see https://peopleatplayers.omeka.net/horizon) Longfinal (talk) 21:43, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Churches: There are others....
[edit]There is plenty of mention of the Methodists and Baptists but no mention of Beeston Town CoE Church (St John: http://www.beestonparishchurch.co.uk/) or the Catholic Church (Church of the Assumption: http://www.theassumption.co.uk/), not to mention several of other denominations. I would suggest it is not wise to mention a few but not all, especially as Beeston Town Church goes back much further than any of the Methodists buildings, even if the present Beeston Town Church building is broadly contemporary with the Beeston Methodist Church on Chilwell High Road.
