Speed trap
[edit]Yelp, Trip Advisor, Death Valley Visitors Forum, and the Beatty News do not meet the requirements of WP:RS. They are not reliable sources. Furthermore, claims such as "the town is essentially moving toward a ghost town" and that Beatty depends "heavily" on speed traps "to keep the local government afloat" are the personal opinions of the editor(s) who added them to the article. They do not meet WP:V and should be removed. Finetooth (talk) 18:48, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Burro Races
[edit]There seems to be some confusion as to when the "World's Championship Burro Race" was held. Some sources, including the Beatty Museum and Historical Society, lists the race as being on Armistice Day. (Link). However, this book on the burro says September. (Link) As well, multiple physical items up for online auction feature September as the event date. (Example 1, Example 2)
Both examples with a September date correspond with a Labor Day weekend event. Which makes more sense from a weather and tourism perspective. My assumption is that the event was held over Labor Day weekend, but at some point someone mis-printed "Armistice Day", which stuck. I am not familiar enough with Wikipedia to know how to reconcile the discrepancies, so I put this here. Rrakoczy (talk) 21:09, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for going to the trouble of tracking these sources down and for adding the burro races to the article. I'm inclined to agree with you that the weather would be more conducive to attracting visitors in September than November and that the Armistice Day wording is probably a mistake. Since we don't know for sure and since the issue is minor, we could hedge by eliminating any mention of which month the races were held. I went ahead and made that change to the article, but if you think another solution would be better, please feel free to make further changes. Finetooth (talk) 23:34, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
