Why dubious?
[edit]Not sure why the dubious tag is on the line about early paper money being a bearer instrument for precious metal, it's completely supported by eg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_certificate_%28United_States%29. Tossrock (talk) 19:09, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
- I think there's a distinction between "you can redeem this for the property" and "holding this means you are the owner of the property"; in the former case, you have to give up the certificate to get the actual silver, and that's how certificates worked. 24.61.207.84 (talk) 22:07, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
