DARA ____________ I suspect "dara" is a Persian word and not Turkic.--84.54.72.51 (talk) 22:48, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two "Bazar Dara"s merged in one heading - needs separation

[edit]

There are clearly two different locations mentioned in the text, one in Gorno Badakhshan in Tajikistan and one in Xinjiang, China. The locations ought to have their own entries. As it is, the article is nonsensical, blurring facts and locations from two different places 358 km apart. 1) The co-ordinates mentioned on the page (N38.025 E73.31) correspond to a ruined village called Bazar Dara in Tajikistan. One the trail to this Tajik Bazar Dara, there is a 4660 metre pass (Bazardara Pass) at N37.9304 E73.3981. 2) The first sentence confuses the two Bazar Daras, with reference to the Yarkand River, Kunlun Mountains and Taklamakan desert, which are all very much in Xinjiang, yet somehow mentions Tajikistan hundreds of kilometres away 3) The Xinjiang Bazar Dara is consistent with the following information in the main article: "It is 139 km west of Shahidulla, and 25 km west of modern Mazar" "It was located at the junction of the route via the Shimshal Valley to Hunza or south over the Mustagh Pass to Skardu, or west to Shahidulla" "It also joined the main winter route which led directly north along the frozen Yarkand River to Yecheng via Kokyar, and from there, the route went northwest via Kokyar to Yarkand (Yarkant County) and Kashgar, or northeast to Pishan Town and Hotan" "a small mining community at the junction of the Bazar Dara and Yarkand Rivers" are all a) completely inconsistent with the location of the Tajik Bazar Dara and b) consistant with a location in Xinjiang at N36.401 E76.804. This is the junction of the Bazar Dara and Yarkand Rivers. (Shahidulla being an ancient fort at N36.414 E77.987 and Mazar being at N36.445 E77.005)

So the bottom line is there are two historical Bazar Daras, one in Tajikistan at N38.025 E73.31 for which there is almost no information on the existing page other than the co-ordinates and the odd mention of "Tajikistan", and one in Xinjiang at N36.401 E76.804, to which the bulk of the information on the existing page refers to.

That is interesting. Pinging John Hill, who created this article. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:33, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, this article is on the Xinjiang Bazar Dara. Some IP changed Xinjiang to Tajikistan, which resulted in confusion. I have gotten rid of those edits now. Are there any more remaining problems? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 23:43, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not that I am aware of. For reference, a fair bit of info can be gained about the Tajik Bazar Dara on pp18,19 of this archaeological guide to the eastern Pamir here: http://docplayer.net/40481656-Guide-to-the-principal-archaeological-sites-of-the-eastern-pamirs-tajikistan.html. It deserves its own entry, as each of the two Bazar Daras has it own local historical importance. The one in Tajikistan is one of the more important historical locations in the Pamir, thus its inclusion in the link I just included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.78.222.204 (talk) 07:31, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please create a new article for it. You can call it Bazar Dara, Tajikistan, and we can later create a disambiguation page for the two Bazar Dara's. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 09:06, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You assume I know how to create an article. Ok will look into it, and try to get around to it in coming weeks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.78.222.204 (talk) 18:17, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there is always a first time! You can click on the red link above and put some text into it. It will be more convenient if you register an account. Then you can use your sandbox to create a draft. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 22:04, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
