Laid Down
[edit]"Laid down" seems like a term that is unique to ships or military ships. What does it mean? Is it jargon? Perhaps someone could write a simple article about it?--Knulclunk (talk) 23:20, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- On building a ship the first parts to be assembled are the keel plates, and these are literally 'laid down' on the ground and the ship built up and around them. So it effectively means construction of the ship started at this date.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.147.13 (talk) 17:24, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Laid down is defined as per above. JRPG (talk) 08:01, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
War Emergency Programme destroyers
[edit]The only link I can find relates to destroyers, some of which were converted after the war. Am I missing something? JRPG (talk) 20:38, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
