Tense

[edit]

Is it common practice to refer to a ride that is still standing, and indeed appears to be reopening in the near future, in the past tense? With regards to roller coasters, I feel as though past tense usually signifies a ride that has either been removed and scrapped, or at least removed and sent to another location, neither of which applies in this case. I have a few sources confirming the work Universal Studios is doing to get the coaster up and running again, though I'm not sure how many are reputable. I can certainly attach some upon request, but either way the ride is only temporarily closed and will be returning. I can think of no reason why past tense should be used here over present, and feel that it is misleading as to the coaster's status. While the article does list the status as Standing But Not Operating, the use of the past-tense at least makes it seem as though it's SBNO pending removal. And actually, the article itself confirms the reopening of the ride towards the end of this year, which makes the tense choice even less fitting. I am happy to fix it, but really don't have the time to do work that will be undone until I'm sure it wasn't a conscious decision for some reason I'm not thinking of. I'm a guest, so don't know what to do to sign this. Guest.
