Proposed move to Battle on Shangganling Mountain
[edit]This is a very awkward title. IMDb refers to the film as "Battle on Shangganling Mountain" which I propose is the title this should be moved to (other sites also refer to it as such). I'm not sure but I've also seen one or two sites refer to this as "Heartbreak Ridge" but I need to do more research on it. Tryptofeng 04:47, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Huang Jiguang
[edit]According what I had read, Huang was actually featured in the movie, though I had not the opportunity to watch it, yet. I would try to get a copy of the DVD sometimes later. Arilang talk 06:10, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- He is featured, but the propaganda surrounding him is a separate matter from this film. He was worshiped as a hero long before this film. He was not mentioned when Chinese talking about the "Shangganling Spirit" (上甘岭精神), which is the real propaganda message about this film or this event.
- The propaganda surrounds Hung Jiguang started when People's Daily published an article called "Chinese Matrosov" (马特洛索夫式的英雄黄继光). So if you really need to study Hung Jiguang propaganda campaign in detail, that would be the starting point. Jim101 (talk) 16:24, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- As I said before, he is not the star of the show and he was not made famous for it...if you really need to spam that poster, either create a separate page on him or use a film screenshot. That poster belongs to his own propaganda campaign, not this films. Furthermore, there really is no verifiable evidence that he even exists. 2 of the witnesses was killed in the fighting, the 3rd one was reportedly "under great duty" to repeat his story over and over. No western sourced even bother with him. Jim101 (talk) 04:01, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Jim101 for your insight on Huang; in this case, shouldn't there be a new wiki like The myth of Huang Jiquang ? Arilang talk 03:59, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
