Class

[edit]

Just curious ... why class B? Any hints on how to upgrade?

Citations, citations, and more citations, mainly. Kirill Lokshin 04:32, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A map would help. Also subsections. See also WP:GA.--Kkmurray 03:35, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

[edit]

I added a infobox but the info in it is kinda scarce, please help me by adding more information--Gw099 01:49, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

describe the battle

[edit]

"and his heart must have sunk."

Describe the battle details and all, do not narrate as if the generals and troops are characters. --68.209.227.3 (talk) 03:21, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting

[edit]

I am actively working on rewriting this article with hopes of working it up to GA status. The currently-existing content is mainly sourced to primary sources and lacks citations in many places. While it is currently admirably detailed, the sourcing to the Official Records, memoirs, and an obscure publication by a local friends of the battlefield group isn't quite good enough. I'll be going through and rewriting this with secondary sources, particularly Ed Bearss, Shelby Foote, and Donald L. Miller. Hog Farm Talk 05:26, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'll get to this shortly--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 02:11, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • No DABs
  • Images appropriately licensed
  • John C. Pemberton order Brigadier General Ordered?
    • Fixed
  • and attempt to cut Williams's Canal across a meander of the river failed; the attempt was over by late June. Awkward
    • I have no idea what I was trying to accomplish there, I've rephrased the whole thing.
  • Suggest adding the numbers for McClernand's and Sherman's corps to make it easier to follow the map
    • Done
  • I gather that there's no detailed map covering the battle available?
    • I've been looking for a free one in old books and the LOC collections, but have not yet been able to find one. The American Battlefield Trust as a good one, but it's only free for noncommercial use so not usable here. Everything else I've seen in copyrighted.
  • Once you've introduced a unit with its full name, suggest that you drop the type and size unless there are multiple units with the same number. Forex 7th Texas Infantry Reg't becomes the 7th Texas.
    • check Partially implemented - I think I've caught all of these with two exceptions - I used the more complex "10th and 30th Tennessee (Consolidated)" so it's always clear that that's a single unit, and I stuck with "1st Tennessee Battalion" to indicate that it is of a different size than the others.
      • Those are properly left alone, I agree.
  • How big was the force at Jackson?
    • Added.
  • were sued for agricultural used?
    • Oops. Corrected.
  • Nicely done.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 01:52, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
