- Support as originator. Usage in English publications indicated in the discussion section below. Olessi (talk) 01:07, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Strong oppose The battle took place near the town of Pułtusk, Poland, hence the name. The accurate diacritic should not be removed from the name. Húsönd 06:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. No convincing reason given to spell Pułtusk in a special way in the expression 'Battle of Pułtusk'. Timeineurope (talk) 18:55, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]A scan of Google Books indicates a few hundred instances of "Battle of Pultusk"; some refer to a battle in 1703 and not necessarily to this 1806 battle. However, "Battle of Pułtusk", the current title, only gives a single Franco-Polish book. Google Scholar offers 16 publications using Pultusk and 1 using Pułtusk. Although the city is known as Pułtusk, the historical battle is known as the Battle of Pultusk, the common name. Olessi (talk) 01:07, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Although a different concept, the name of the battle derives from the name of the town. The variant without the diacritic, although more common due to the typical unawareness of the existent of the diacritic or simple lack of it in English keyboards, is less accurate than the one with the diacritic.
