[edit]Sfn'd the references, tidied the layout and added data on casualties from OH.Keith-264 (talk) 20:17, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Article scope?
[edit]I understand that the official nomenclature dates the Battle of Pozières as 23 July - 3 September, the dates given in the infobox, but this article starts with the statement that it was a two-week battle, and ends with the final German counter-attack on 7 August. Officially the Battle of Pozières included the fight for Mouquet Farm, but on Wikipedia this has a separate article at Battle of Mouquet Farm, which BTW has conflicting end dates of either the official end of the Battle for Pozières on 3 September (according to the lead), or with the final capture of the Farm on 26 September (according to the infobox). Shouldn't the Mouquet Farm article should be rolled into this article, and it's final capture be part of the Aftermath section? FactotEm (talk) 15:29, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
- I have the makings of a rewrite but haven't got round to it yet. Mouquet Farm, Pozieres and Beaumont-Hamel are the last of the 12 battles and 23 tactical incidents to finish. I would have done them but got a trapped nerve last year which alas, slowed me down so I missed the 1 July deadline. Mouquet Farm will get a separate page like the other TIs. regardsKeith-264 (talk) 16:23, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. And that sounds painful. Hope things are better now. I used the Pozières article as background reading for my current project, and found the explicit separation of the two 'phases' confusing. I would have thought that it would be more logical to include the battle for the farm in the Pozières article, this being the official line, and also reflected in the content of the single book I have on the subject, which of course now makes me an expert on the subject. :D Either way, I added a clause to the lead which explains the date range discrepencies and explicitly links the fighting for Mouquet Farm to the Battle of Pozières. - Thanks for the good wishes, I'm feeling much better; hope you're well. I have a version of the article in a sandbox but after plodding through Transloy needed a break, as Poz' is the biggest one left to do. There was a committee that reported in 1919 about battles nomenclature which decided the naming of battles, duration and smaller tactical incidents. Mouquet Farm is a battle-within-a-battle so it has a separate page and a shorter treatment in the main Poz' page. You'll see the pattern repeated in the campaignbox, the TIs in brackets after the main battle. Every time I think about starting on the re-draft, something comes up, like the Beaumont-Hamel TI, which I'm working on; I've left the article alone mostly, except for things I can paste in, like the doings of the French further south so I'm not surprised that it looks unfinished, it is.
