Significance of the battle

Is this sentence really convincing? "The Kangxi Emperor's victory at Jao Modo represented the first time the Chinese military had successfully tamed warring tribes at its frontier. At the same time it ended Galdan's dreams of reviving a pan-Mongolian central Asian empire.[10] "

I am unfamiliar with the source, but it wouldn't be the first time that a work on contemporary challenges of any region or culture got slipshod with deeper history. Happens for European history all the time.

In this case, even an examination of any of many Wiki articles on earlier periods would suggest that, although the problem of taking the army of a settled empire onto the steppe was always a great one, many versions of the Chinese empire had been able to defeat or suppress nomads before. From the Shang and Zhou to the Han wars against the Xiongnu, with the latter eventually involving substantial Han victory.

Indeed, although the peoples to the immediate north always proved the toughest nut for China to crack, the western regions, whence the Oirat/Dzungars had come, succumbed to Chinese rule again and again.
