Image and more
[edit]I found a bunch of such images here. A minor point: It might be a bit confusing when the text uses both meanings of the word legendary. It states that the battle is "semi-legendary" meaning that the descriptions of it are at least partially fictous, but it also mentions the "legendary Jomsvikings" not in the sense that they are totally made up i hope :). That could benefit from a slight rewording, or am I way off here? Inge 12:16, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- You're right, it's a tricky word and I've used it carelessly. Both the Jomsvikings and the battle have some historical basis - please reword to make that clear :) Haukur 12:18, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- I changed it to fabled, but I'm not completely satisfied with that word either. Inge 12:30, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Should be renamed to Hjǫrungavágr
[edit]See e.g. here: https://skaldic.org/db.php?id=1500&if=default&table=text There is no ö in Old Norse, that's just a 'second-best' rendition of ǫ in some print editions due to technical restrictions, and it's ambiguous, because it could also stand for ON ø. And it wasn't an ø in this word - the environment clearly shows that the vowel is the product of u-umlaut and not i-umlaut. The Mainland Scandinavian fronting of ǫ after /j/ is a later process, and the later Icelandic general fronting of ǫ is not part of normalised ON either, of course. 62.73.69.121 (talk) 11:46, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
