Great article
[edit]...about a little-known battle.
Question - why was Junot's cavalry unable to charge? Tirailleur 14:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- His cavalry was mainly made up of hastily conscripted troops, most of whom had only just learnt to ride a horse. Many of the riders were too inexperienced to hold a consistent line whilst in full gallop, which meant that they attacked the Austrian lines at a trot, or like in the American Indians in the Wild West, a loose pack. Either way, they were unable to break a line of well disciplined infantry. Centy – – 15:00, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Greatest battle of this war in Saxony? Gefrees surely wasn't / isn't located in Saxony.
[edit]Can somebody perhaps clarify? I feel this error has been taken over from the German article, which also tries to place Gefrees into Saxony. I was of the opinion that Gefrees at that time was part of the Bayreuth-Brandenburg Duchy?
- No Gefrees wasn't in Saxony, but the majority of the conflict took part on the Bohemia-Saxony border. However if you read the article you will realise that the Austrians pushed the Confederation troops back somewhat resulting in the key battle taking place at Gefrees. However virtually all the other engagements except the opening invasion of Bohemia took place inside Saxony. There isn't an agreed name for what this part of the War of the Fifth Coalition should be called, so I just referred to it as the war in Saxony rather or the Saxon front.
