Vegetius
[edit]Unless Vegetius gave Coel's name, he is just as likely to be talking about Quinctilius Varus, whose troops were wiped out by Hermann's coalition. The archaeology shows that their baggage train would have stretched for a mile or so. Unless you have better evidence, Vegetius doesn't prove anything about Coel since there's a far better example much closer to home. 100.15.127.199 (talk) 21:18, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Article should be mostly removed
[edit]This article has serious misgivings and does not belong on Wikipedia. Vegetius made no reference to this figure, to Coilsfield, to Scotland, etc. He simply wrote a Roman manual about army practices. The extracts provided in the Wiki article by its creator does nothing to substantiate the content, and has nothing to do with the subject matter. There is no historical evidence of any battle at Coilsfield beyond antiquarian lore that is only a few centuries old. They also seem to have extracted some antiquarian nonsense without citing the source. Whatever it is, it makes a fallacious reference to Vegetius. Again, Vegetius never wrote about these subjects. 82.43.88.129 (talk) 18:34, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Resolve of article issues
[edit]A detailed and fully cited article has been supplied which objectively treats the evidence of the battle and accounts of it to properly contextualise facts from tradition, and the archaeology involved. 82.43.88.129 (talk) 23:15, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
