Decisive Revolutionary War battle
[edit]Batsto was the cause of an important battle in the Revolutionary War. As noted in the article, the iron works were supplying the Continental Army, primarily with cannon and musket balls. It was important enough that the British decided to attack. However, the British preferred to bring troops by boat up the Little Egg Harbor River. This was a major strategic blunder. The "river" is relatively shallow, which slowed the attack. And the river has a large number of bends... some of which are so tight they create peninsulas... offering land-based snipers ample opportunity to target the attackers. (I've canoed the river many times and I can attest to the shallowness and windiness.) In the end, the attack was repulsed, leaving the iron works to continue supplying the colonists.

Swedish Native Americans
[edit]Why is this article in a 'Place names of Native American origin' category when the article states the name is of Swedish origin?--66.87.4.31 (talk) 00:33, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- It is believed the Lenni Lenape borrowed the word from the Swedes who had settled in the southern Delaware River area, and the Lenni Lenape apparently applied it to this particular place. Old English deeds mention an "Indian Batstu". This is according to the State Park Service. 69.95.203.232 (talk) 06:11, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
