Cannon
[edit]Bruce Timm clearly considers this movie DCAU cannon, not a "spiritual successor" as evidenced by his quotes “Early on we decided we were going to set the movie in the classic, Batman: The Animated Series universe." and “I don’t really know. I personally kind of think that it is, but I’m not actually in control of what’s in continuity... so technically this could be continuity or it could just be head-canon. I don’t know.” http://comicbook.com/dc/2017/07/30/batman-and-harley-quinn-dc-animated-universe-continuity/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smnc (talk • contribs) 20:34, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Adding to this, since someone saw fit to remove a chunk of the canonicity section of the article:
Bruce also said: "it was just an excuse to kind of go back to the BTAS world" and "I personally kind of think of it as a continuation of Batman: The Animated Series, and the DC Animated Universe"
To address the point made he brought up about not being in control of what's in continuity, the film is listed as a BTAS movie on DC's website https://www.dccomics.com/tags/batman-the-animated-series-movie (just look at the url for christ's sake) as well as the back for the trade collection of the films tie-in comics specifically says "Head back to the universe of Batman: The Animated Series in Batman and Harley Quinn" (Here's a picture of it posted by one of the artists who worked on the book https://www.instagram.com/p/Be6BGnEBD5o/?hl=en&taken-by=lucianovecchioart). Not to mention that Warner Bros specifically stated in the films press release "Animation legend Bruce Timm returns to his Batman: The Animated Series roots with an original tale " (seen here: https://www.warnerbros.com/blogs/2017/07/14/comic-con-2017). Timm may have been unsure whether the corporate entities wanted to consider it canon, but it's been made abundantly clear that it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.109.61.96 (talk) 17:40, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
The reason this stance is hypocritical is that everyone wants to insist Brainiac Attacks is NOT in continuity, simply because the writer said it wasn't, possibly under directive from WB after its poor reception. We cannot judge whether things are or are not canon simply based on the word of the writer or one single creative involved with the project. Do the characters act equally out of character in this movie as they do in Brainiac Attacks? YES. WB's official word has to be the basis and barring that, you can't exclude one that has identical designs and voice actors but throw the other in just because Bruce Timm said so. Remember, WB didn't include Mystery of the Batwoman in the blu-ray set either, indicating they don't consider that one canon either, mainly because it's terrible. Based on the quality involved it doesn't make any sense to say MotB and B&HQ somehow share the same continuity, but S:BA doesn't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1702:820:7410:5496:230C:9D5F:C270 (talk) 14:45, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

[edit]I don't think it's fair to say in the response section that Rauch's performance as Quinn is criticized; I read all of the linked reviews and a majority of them had mainly positive things to say. The "worst" thing I saw was basically saying she did competently, but tried too hard to emulate a previous actress. Hardly a bad criticism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.118.237.50 (talk) 17:50, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
