Rename/move suggestion

Hi,

This should be moved or whatever to Batey. A batey, we gather, is a place, not a quantity. "Unit of production" suggests a quantity, like "bushel" or "hogshead" or some such. --Mashford 13:51, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Overly Politicized?

Hi,

I worry that some of the content on this page is overly colloquial, politicized or makes claims that should be referenced.

For example: "...that the conditions are absolutely deplorable" "These Haitians are being held for ransom in this deplorable places." "The Batey is a modern form of slavery where Haitians are paid less than $2.00 American dollars for 12-14 hours of labor. They are forced to sleep on foam boards and live without electricity,running water."

While I'm not trying to argue for or against the opinions expressed, I feel that this should contain appropriate references and documentation.

Out-of-date

The photo of the ingenio in Consuelo is representative, but it has been torn down as of several years ago. It might be relabeled "former" or something to indicate it's now historical only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.37.165.52 (talk) 18:08, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
