More precise article name

[edit]

A bit of a walkthrough of my thought process here:

  • I noticed on Wikidata that Category:Ferry routes (Q8446865) didn't have an English Wikipedia entry (had it for 6 other languages) so I created it Category:Ferry routes
  • I went looking for valid sub-categories to transfer and only found one, so I started looking at other ones.
  • I thought of something like Devonport – Melbourne ferry may be a good article name for the specific route
  • However in the next two years the Victorian port will change to Geelong so unless multiple articles are to be created for each route, a more generic name may be better - I then considered this article.

Any thoughts on naming it Bass Strait ferry (a minor difference, but makes the topic be the route, rather than the collection of ferries which have serviced the route)? -- Chuq (talk) 10:01, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Chuq: I have added Category:Staten Island Ferry to Category:Ferry routes. There are probably other articles and categories that qualify. I have not found any articles or categories on ferry routes in Europe, possibly because the route networks are too complex. Regarding the name and scope of this article, I think it should cover all ferry services between Tasmania and mainland Australia. I favour 'Bass Strait ferries' as the title, as there have been multiple routes. I see no good reason to have a separate article on each route between a pair of ports; these would be better covered by sections in this article. Verbcatcher (talk) 20 April 2021‎
