[edit]Misguided blocking
[edit]User:clpo13, you have blocked me at the complaint of user:Lugnuts for my "vandalism" of the Basil Thampi page. In fact, I am the aggrieved party. Cricketer Basil Thampi has won an award at the IPL 2017 final last night, shown on television, reported in every single Indian newspaper this morning. Yet, Lugnuts will not allow me to add one simple sentence saying that the award has been given to Thampi. This is not just a classic example of intimidation of IPs and sheer arrogance, but also violates several Wikipedia policies such as WP:OWN and WP:3RR. Your blocking me has clearly not worked, but you should block Lugnuts for violating WP:3RR. 59.182.181.221 (talk) 08:02, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe you should follow the advice given by me and Lugnuts and add a source. But it'd be wise to wait until the block is expired in 31 hours. clpo13(talk) 08:09, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- I am astonished that you blocked my second IP -- you can block this third also, if you think it worthwhile. But I want to bring something else to your notice. I have been trying to figure out why exactly Lugnuts is to this extent inimical to my very simple sentence being included on the Basil Thampi page. Especially when it would be a simple matter for him to add a source (any newspaper or news website, for instance this) and make that minor edit himself, instead of edit-warring to the extent of violating 3RR. I think I have it. I have had nothing to do in the past with Lugnuts, but from his edit history, he seems to be of Sri Lankan ethnicity, whereas Basil Thampi is of part-Tamil, part-Malyali ethnicity, hailing from the extreme south of India. The Sri Lankan Civil War page will tell you of the ethnic animus between the two groups over the past several decades. It is of course impossible to prove that Lugnuts is motivated by ethnic animus in wanting to keep out a sentence about Thampi's recent award, but is it proper to allow him Ownership of that page given this possibility? 59.182.158.184 (talk) 12:26, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- Clpo13 - this IP is still continuing to revert this by jumping from account to account. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:43, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you, IP, for providing a source. Finally. I have done your work for you and added it to the article. In future, please provide sources when you add material. And do not impugn other users, it is considered personal attacking. Thank you and have a pleasant day. --‖ Ebyabe talk - Repel All Boarders ‖ 15:14, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you, User:Ebyabe, for doing something consructive. You are the first one yet, in a crowd which includes at least two admins, one of them a specimen who has protected this page. And I am an established user, savoring the way IPs and newbies get kicked around for no reason on WP. By the way, if you think I made this edit, you are wrong. 59.182.128.91 (talk) 08:40, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
- Established user? Maybe you'd like to login to your account then. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:42, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
- Than I would not know you so well, my love, nor would I be able to call you names. Logging in or not is my choice, that should not determine how you behave.59.182.128.91 (talk) 08:44, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
- And that's why you get treated so badly. Jumping from account to account, trolling, not understanding the basics about WP:V and WP:RS. You're not helping your IP cause one bit. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:50, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Some questions
[edit]In order to prevent an IP from making this simple (and accurate) addition to this page, Lugnuts made at least five reverts to the page in half an hour, lodged a request seeking Administrator intervention, wrongly alleged "vandalism" and "BPL violation" in that complaint, twice followed up on that complaint, got TWO IPs blocked for trying to add that sentence, then sought page-protection and got the page blocked from all editing!! At least two Admins (User:clpo13 and User:RickinBaltimore) have done the dirty -- blocked IPs and even protected the page --without even cursory investigation. How Lugnuts chooses to spend his time is arguably his choice, but several questions come to mind:
- Firstly, regarding the content itself. The sentence is in fact totally innocuous. The information contained could have been ascertained using Google by anybody concerned in the space of a minute. What exactly was so outrageous, incredible or intolerable in that simple sentence about Thampi winning an award which provoked so much action, elicited such unshakable contempt and rejection of both the information and of the IP, gets the IP called many names, troll, vandal, what have you?
- Further, as to action taken. Is all this fracas and activity reasonable and proportionate, either on the part of Lugnuts or of the two admins?
- How does all this relate to the letter and spirit of WP:OWN, of WP:BITE and WP:AGF?
- What does it tell us about the qualities of the Admins, who seem to care nothing for these policies?
- Last but not least, what recourse does a random IP have, who will not even know what has fallen on him, who will be unable even to follow the activity of his tormentors or know what they are talking about, who is suddenly blocked out of WP?
Does someone feel inclined to address these questions? 59.182.128.91 (talk) 09:30, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
