Birth date

[edit]

Various sources give various dates for his birth. The New York Times obituary has him born in 1842, but if he was attending Colby in 1857, that seems wrong (although not impossible). The "History of Dakota Territory" gives his birthdate as either 1830 or 1839, depending on what exact scanned version you are looking at. 1830 seems a bit early, so I have gone with 1839. There is also [this source], which gives both 1842 and 1839 in the course of it, but somehow the 1839 date seems more authoritative there, it is in a list with all the other family dates, while the 1842 one is in the text, and also has the day wrong (all the other sources say the 15th of July, not the 5th). This genealogical source is also where I picked up some of the info about his brother William. Brianyoumans (talk) 20:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually, I examined the source given above more closely, and it includes the relevant pages from the 1850 census. Those clearly state that Bartlett was 11 at the time, which means that 1839 must be the correct date. Brianyoumans (talk) 01:31, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ralph or Franklin?

[edit]

Looking at the sources online, I don't see where I got "Ralph" for the name of Bartlett's wife's first husband, it is clearly "Franklin". See here, for instance. My fault, and Chorn50 was correct, if lacking in explanations. Brianyoumans (talk) 05:02, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
