Longest serving mayor

[edit]

Somebody has added the below underneath the article:

MBE Sidney Ensor (1893-1980) was the Mayor of Thames, New Zealand for 28 years from 1931 to 1959 and a member of the council for 54 years. For this service he received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth and Ensor Place in Thames was named after him and Margaret Place was named after his wife. Thus, I believe, Sir Sidney Ensor holds the record of New Zealand's longest serving Mayor.

I have thus rewritten the lead to remove the ambiguity that was caused by the Manukau CC press release quoted via Scoop. Souds like Sidney Ensor would deserve his own article, or at least get a mention in the Thames article. Schwede66 15:45, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
