Statue Honoring Alvarez
[edit]A bronze statue of Alvarez was installed to honor him. [1] "Nail's Tales" was installed as a requirement of a Wisconsin state law called the Percent for Art. [2] [3] -JakeApple 23:45, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Barrance Edmund Alvarez III
[edit]I've changed this back to "Barry Alvarez." If someone can provide a citation that proves that his name really is Barrance Edmund Alvarez III, then feel free to change it back. -JakeApple 06:16, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Ethnicity?
[edit]One of the links says he is Hispanic. What is his specific ethnicity? 68.40.65.164 04:01, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Best Winning Percentage
[edit]The claims that his winning percentage are the best in school history are not correct without qualification and smell of hyperbole. At a minimum, a citation should be required. The original "easily the best in school history" claim is "easily shown to be incorrect": Parke H. Davis coached at UW for one season (1894) and had a winning percentage of 66.66% at the school. This is just the first one I found (there are likely others in the early history) which is why I changed the verbiage to read "in the modern era" -- even this seems lame and remains unverified. The claim should probably be struck in its entirety if it is not cited. At a minimum, the "easily the best" is clearly wrong and the qualification will have to be specified in order to make the claim that it is the best in school history (ie. minimum number of seasons, "in the modern era", since joining the Big Ten -- whatever would be needed to make the 61.5% best claim stand in the light of some of the strong teams UW had in the late 1800s/early 1900s).

Bowl Game Record
[edit]I am an alum and Barry Alvarez is close to a diety for me, but, c'mon -- "minimum 11 bowl games". Go to any of the Wisconsin bowl games, and the list of Wisconsin bowl games reveals that UW has been in 22 bowl games in its history. WTF? Who, exactly, is Alvarez's competition for this 11+ best bowl game record? -- no other UW coach as been in 11 or more bowl games. This whole section about his achievements does more harm than good -- just comes off as completely unverified "homer" fan crap. He's an HOF-er: his achievements are incredible and do not need this baseless, unverified, out-of-context hyperbole which only serve to cheapen his accomplishments.

Head coaching record
[edit]I don't think the 2012 entry should be highlighted as a Big Ten champion in this section. While that team did indeed win the conference title, it was not under Alvarez's coaching - he only coached the bowl game - and thus is not part of his head coaching record. To highlight 2012 is to credit Alvarez with a fourth Big Ten title when he actually won three. 108.254.160.23 (talk) 18:18, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
