Current Speakers
[edit]I would very much refute this claim:
It is unlikely that Barossa German is now spoken fluently, on a day to day basis, by anyone, although some words from it have entered South Australian English.
As I am a Barossinarian and did, in fact on the weeknend, experience a fluent speaker of what would be called Barossa German. I am a fluent (or nearly!) German speaker, and could not reasonable understand said person in 'Barossa German'. I do not claim to know all dialect of German, but know that I recognised that many words spoken by said person were and amalgamation of German and English words. Therefore i would request that this sentence be removed by the author as it is inaccurate. Cheers ABVS1936 17:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Barossa German MA Thesis
[edit]When I was studying German at Adelaide Uni in the mid 90's Professor Brian Coglin led me in the direction of the MA thesis of Peter Paul[1]. Parts of it were online but seem to have been taken down. His M.A. thesis was titled 'A descriptive study of Barossa German' (Paul, P.: 'Das Barossa Deutsche', M.A., University of Adelaide 1965.)[2]. I'll try to drop into the Barr Smith Library to see if it's still kept. Ozdaren 02:23, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- The German wikipedia article has some more general information on the situation of German and Germans in Australia through the 2 world wars.[3] It offers an interesting insight into the destruction of German culture during that period. Ozdaren 02:52, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
