Gig

In looking for the word "gig" in etemology (I played a gig last night at the bar.), I find it to be of unknown origin. Looking at "gigue" then "giga", I can't help wonder if they are related.

What do you feel is lacking? A more in-depth discussion of the relationship between the music and the dance? More information about celebrated dancers of the baroque era? A great socio-political history of the era itself? Just curious.
