Barnyard and his allegiance to Gina Rinehart
Hey guys, can we please add reference to Barnaby Joyce being nicknamed “Barnyard”, as in, Barnaby Thomas “Barnyard” Joyce, as well as his alleince being to Gina Rinehart on the basis of their factual accuracy? Cheers. 101.189.167.59 (talk) 13:08, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Change the status of the leadership of Barnaby Joyce as he is no longer the nationals leader ThisIsTim (talk) 07:17, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- He is until Monday, it will be changed then. --Canley (talk) 07:36, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- I've started over breakfast, based on an SMH log and what I heard on ABC, but there is probably more to change now, and almost certainly more later in the day when the GG gets involved. --Scott Davis Talk 21:52, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Lead
User:The Drover's Wife, I rewrote the lead. Why do you consider it "messy"? The previous lead was not good. "Joyce faced criticism and calls to resign, some from fellow party members and cabinet colleagues,[13] over forming a sexual relationship between a minister and his staffer, the contradiction between support for family values and his actions, and the creation of new employment roles for Campion." That's a real messy sentence; also lead is not the place for saying what a hypocrite Joyce is. Look at Craig Thomson (politician); just say what happened without moralising. I grant you that more dates and cabinet roles could be added. (Also, I doubt the not yet competed investigation of the formal complaint against Joyce should be in the lead per WP:BLP - and if so, his denial needs to be mentioned.) Pinging User:Sampajanna, who thanked me. NPalgan2 (talk) 03:12, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- The lead when I undid it was ridiculously brief for an article of that size and left out critical information (including when he was Deputy Prime Minister!). If your issue was with the section about his affair, then I don't understand why all the other information about his life and career was removed. I'm very open to suggested changes to the paragraph about the affair. I'd probably have agreed with you about mentioning the complaint except that its leaking was the direct catalyst for his resignation - however, I'm not that fussed about it either way. The Drover's Wife (talk) 03:43, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- User:The Drover's Wife I don't understand what "even uncontrversial material" is being omitted from the rerevised lead you want. That his accountancy practice was in St George? That he returned to parliament a week after the by-election? Doesn't seem lead worthy. NPalgan2 (talk) 05:04, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- Also, a large part of the article is about BJ's political positions. They should be in the lead too per MOS:INTRO, but the current lead is already pretty long. NPalgan2 (talk) 05:16, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- I just find this whole issue really strange: you haven't once actually explained what you thought was wrong with the existing version apart from a couple of quibbles with the affair section (which you got no argument from me as to fixing). The existing section summarised his life in an appropriate amount of detail in an appropriate depth and tone, while the rewrite was an awkward, stilted, too-short mess that read like someone had been asked to summarise his entire life in 10 seconds. I don't see a reason for specific political positions of his (as opposed to his party) to be in the lead - it's an appropriate thing to mention in the body of the article, but the lead should summarise his life and career. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:35, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Dating of the Vicki Campion scandal
The article says in the opening "In February 2018, Joyce's former media consultant Vikki Campion was found to be pregnant with his child". That's just not true. Everyone in parliament, both politicians as well as the media knew about this, but just chose not to report about it 101.183.21.131 (talk) 22:39, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Changed "found" to "reported". Wikiain (talk) 23:32, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
the allegation of sexual harassment from a WA woman should be removed. Joyce has denied allegation - as per Bill Shortens page which does not contain rape allegation
- It has received wide publicity and the woman has been named by some media. To mention it is important. (Please sign your posts.) Wikiain (talk) 00:16, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Inquiries

In the "affair and resignation" section, please add that on 21 February, Turnbull ordered an investigation on whether Joyce had breached the ministerial code of conduct. This was dropped after Joyce resigned from the frontbench, but another inquiry into Joyce and Campion's travel expenses is ongoing.[1]
Thank you. --122.108.141.214 (talk) 21:01, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

Please add in the "environmental views" section that Joyce has joined the Monash Forum, a group of Liberal and National MPs who advocate for building new coal-fired power in Australia.[1]

Derryn Hinch the unnamed “conservative” who asked Vicki Campion to have an abortion
It seems that it has not been included that Derryn Hinch is the so called “conservative” who asked Vicki Campion to bave an abortion. Although widely reported by digital media it also appears to be censored by major news outlets on the ground of ethics. Should we include? 2001:8003:6A23:2C00:7C61:E8EB:2B18:5ACB (talk) 07:32, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

By-election result
This article is repeatedly being subject to attempts to spin the by-election in a misleading way. In 2016, Joyce faced Tony Windsor, the long-term incumbent MP from the seat. At the by-election, Windsor did not contest and all his opponents were low-profile. This is even noted in the headline of the sources being cited by the misleading additions. Every politician in a seat with a strong partisan lean who faces a strong, high-profile candidate at one election and low-profile opposition at the next gets a large swing in their favour, and attempting to spin that as a personal victory will always be disingenuous spin. I have no objection to mention of a large swing with the same caveat as the ABC that it was against low-profile opposition, but the repeatedly edit-warred edits are a major NPOV violation. The Drover's Wife (talk) 12:13, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- The Drover's Wife Is consistently objecting to the use of "with a large primary and two-party swing" as stated on the 2017 New England by-election and referenced by links to ABC News (Australia) and SBS World News, both well-established reliable sources. Sampajanna (talk) 12:31, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- Yes - except that you've removed the caveats on that result that those organisations reported, which completely changes the implication of the sentence. Citing well-established reliable sources doesn't help if you're misrepresenting what they've reported so the text skews a particular way. The Drover's Wife (talk) 12:33, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- The Drover's Wife Please specify precisely what caveats you are alluding to.Sampajanna (talk) 12:38, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- For the third time, the headline of your own source says and I quote "Barnaby Joyce declares victory in New England with huge swing against low-profile opponents". Removing the "against low-profile opponents" completely changes the meaning of that sentence. The Drover's Wife (talk) 12:55, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- The Drover's Wife There appears to be some confusion. The following with a large primary and two-party swing is what I have been including. You have already conceded (above) that you have no objection to mention of a large swing against low-profile opposition. This has now been added. Sampajanna (talk) 14:00, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
