The BARI
[edit]Historical Importance: The Bari community has a rich history dating back centuries, with references to their contributions found in ancient texts and historical records. Their traditional occupations, such as cooking for royal households and serving in administrative & security roles, highlight their importance in the socio-economic fabric of earlier societies.
Cultural Traditions: The Bari people have a distinct cultural identity characterized by unique traditions, customs, and folklore. They often have their own traditional attire, music, dance forms, and rituals that reflect their cultural heritage and values. Occupational Diversity: While historically known for their roles as cooks and servants in royal households, the Bari community is diverse in terms of occupations. Today, many Bari people are engaged in a variety of professions, including agriculture, handicrafts, trade, and services working in Govt. Section & UNO & MNC contributing to the economic development of their regions.
Resilience and Adaptability: Despite facing socio-economic challenges and discrimination, the Bari community has shown resilience and adaptability in coping with changing circumstances. Many members of the community have successfully navigated through adversity, demonstrating their strength and determination to improve their lives and livelihoods. They have adopted & merged themselfs with Chauhans & Sisodiyas as they have equally played roles to help Rajputs with struggle of Brutals Mughals.
Cultural Preservation Efforts: Efforts are underway to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Bari community. Cultural organizations, researchers, and activists are working to document their traditions, languages, and folklore, ensuring that future generations can learn about and appreciate the richness of Bari culture.

The Bari community get their name from the Sanskrit word “vari” meaning water. According to mythological texts, Bari were also known as sharaswat Brahmins in the era of Rama Of Ayodhya. Bari used to cook for Rama and called as “Bar”. Due to social problems Bari shifted to other sub clans which was associated with “Sisodiya” of Rajput clan in the middle age of india. In the history of Rajput Bari lost life for their king in the battlefield. Bari also claim descent from Rupan Bari,a soldier in the army of [alha udal].Rupan Bari details available in the folk song called Alha & very popular in southern uttarpardesh.
Bari spent many years in forest because of fear of killing by Mughals and their subordinates in india.Bari adopted business of leaves and started making “leaf Crockery”for their livehodd.Bari also do trading of Pan leaves in state of Maharastra & Madhya Pradesh. The Bari speaks the language of their region.Major population of Bari live the state Uttar Pradesh,Maharastra,Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan & Bihar.
Now the people of our community marching ahead with the progress & now we are found in government services, Business & other sectors. People of our community are now focused on education of their children & claim themselves as “kshtriya”. People of our community are now in business & working with other communities. Bari classified as OBC (Other backward class) in Uttar Pradesh , Rajasthan, Haryana, & delhi.community use the surname like Bari, Rawat, Singh,Donwar, Prasad, singh & thakur.
