Treatment of Mrs. Proudie
[edit]Whether it is conscious or not on Trollope's part, the treatment of Mrs. Proudie reveals the frustrations of ambitious women in his era. In another culture she might have been a good leader; in Barsetshire she is forced to work through her husband, and gets criticized and ridiculed for that. Some of her actions are actually admirable, such as forcing the corrupt Rev. Stanhope to carrry out his duties. Whether or not he approved of the oddities of Victorian culture, Trollope was at least aware that more than one point of view was possible. CharlesTheBold (talk) 14:57, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
