This belongs in the lead! Perhaps the lead could also be expanded with mention of close relatives and a mention of the two separate ranges.

• The cultivation section jumps straight into how-to material. Perhaps you could consider opening the section by saying that the plant is sometimes used in cultivation (or similar), and then frame the how-to material in a slightly different way so that it reads more like an encyclopedia entry.
