Snotterstone
[edit]Margymarge is intending to put some local history related items in this article, including some info on the Snotterstone. I am hoping to persuade a Banks fisherman and local history expert to provide much of the information I refer to. He also happens to be the shrimper pictured in the article. Margymarge. 4th Sept 2009.
Reply: Please write more infomation about our village onto this page, but it has to be true and make as many references as you can. I will personally check/edit what you have wrote. I was intending to make a section on the Snotterstone myself soon, but if you get to it first then that's fine with me. If you do contribute then let me advise you on making a seperate section intitled 'Scotterstone'. If you could also upload a picture of the stone, plus other pitures of the village(bootsale, shops, roads, Banks marsh etc).I look forward to your contribution.--93gregsonl2 (talk) 23:46, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- When is this going to be done? I need this section to be done by Sunday at the latest as I am trying to complete this article so I can get this article under peer review for GA status. I would also like a section on the rock that lies on Banks Road between Banks and Crossens. I will try to do this myself this week. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 20:35, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

ALL PICS MUST BE LABELED --93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:47, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- I've added some images so you can see how it's done. If you want to use any more of the pictures from here, all you have to do is copy the formatting. Is High Brow a part of Banks? If so, I can upload this image to Commons, as it the best picture of farming in the area I could find on Geograph. I've also made some cosmetic changes to the article, rearranging stuff and changing section titles so that the article is more in line with WP:UKCITIES which is Wikipedia's guideline for writing about settlements in the UK. It's a good idea to read through it so you know what else can be added to the article and what is perhaps unnecessary. I'm thinking of the list of facilities in this instance. Nev1 (talk) 23:24, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
I would like this atricle to be GA Status on Wikipedia. Also it would be one of the first GA articles that are under the scope of WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria. If you don't know what that means please look at the this link: GA Status. In order for this article to become GA, the article needs to be of a good quality. Look at these examples of UK Geography articles that are GA: Crawley, Shewsbury.
In order for this article to become GA these things need to be done:
- Improve the section History intensivly. Doing...
- A picture needs to be uploaded of Banks Bootsale.
- A pitcture need to be uploaded of one/both of the local Primary schools. Done
- The introduction needs to be improved.
- Demography needs to be improved.
- Greaves Hall needs to make more sense.
- Historical Images
- Maybe have a section called Notable People.
Useful Guidelines:How to write about settlements
If these things are done then I will nominate this article for GA and this would be the first GA article in the area. Thanks. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 19:58, 23 September 2009 (UTC) woohoo lets go for it and get banks on the map for good with a GA status! I will look into some more pics just tell me where and what and i will get them! Also i will look into the Greaves Hall part as it is my speciality! Bankhallbretherton (talk) 21:24, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- I think you're going to need a lot more citations for this article else it'll fail GAR on verifiability. Also the citations will need to be properly formatted using WP:CITE WEB etc. NtheP (talk) 21:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I am working on citations but they are very hard to find. I get most of the infomation from books. Will that be OK for citations?93gregsonl2 (talk) 21:34, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. For GA & FA printed sources are better than web only citations. Books appear to have more credability. Use Template:Cite book to cite them. NtheP (talk) 21:42, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Deadline!
[edit]IMPORTANT INFOMATION: PLEASE READ
- I am going to submit this article for GA Peer Review on Sunday (18th October 2009). This will help us get ready and just iron out the problems we have before we submit our article to GA. I know there is quite a few things to be done (look at list below). Important I need this article to be 100% ready by Sunday for GA Peer Review. So we have to work our socks off as I will submit this article at around 10:00pm. We need to insure that this article is in tip-top conditon by Sunday as if we get everything on the article then at least it will be checked by the GA Peer Review team and we can imporove on it before it is submitied to the real GA. (I have proberbly annoyed, confused and bored everyone by now so I will get to the things we need to do by SUNDAY).
- Everything needs to be done with these recomended guidelines: How to write about settlements
- If you are working on any of these below then please write {{doing}} and your name beside the task.
- Improve the section History intensivly. Doing... 93gregsonl Doing... Margymarge
- The introduction needs to be improved. (refer to How to write about settlements) Doing... 93gregsonl
- Demography needs to be improved. Doing... 93gregsonl
- Greaves Hall needs to make more sense. Doing... 93gregsonl
- Historical Images (seperate gallery) Doing... 93gregsonl
- Maybe have a section called Notable People Doing... 93gregsonl
- Improve Infobox so it is simular to ones like Manchester Doing...
Pictures
- A picture needs to be uploaded of Banks Bootsale.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
- Citations/references- these are vital for GA
Even if someone has put Doing... on a task then you still can edit and contribute too. This is a team effort. WE CAN GET TO GA.
- Thanks. I am looking forward to your contributions.93gregsonl2 (talk) 20:54, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Questions/replies
[edit]Please put your replies here.
Have a read of the peer review on Lostock Hall - Wikipedia:Peer review/Lostock Hall/archive1. In the words of the reviewer it's a way off GA staus yet, and I think it's probably a better article (in terms of GA ness) at the moment than this one. I think setting yourself a deadine for submission of this weekend might be a mistake. Better to concentrate on getting the article up to scratch than going for an artifical deadline and failing. NtheP (talk) 09:39, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well that is what I am trying to do is to try and get it perfect before Sunday (I understand there is loads more to do, but I am working on it). I just would like a deadline for Peer Review so we can see what needs to be done before we get to the GAN stage.
I would like a 'deadline' as just to get things moving as I would like this article to GA as then I can move on to anouther place like Tarleton. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 17:42, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sunday is when I am going to put this article for Peer Review NOT GAN.93gregsonl2 (talk) 17:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- OK noted.
Suggestions
Following on from the Lostock Hall Peer Review
1) Weather data - as this is for Blackpool which is a distance away I'd sugest leaving the table out as being too inaccurate/non specific to the target location.
2) Check the copyright status of all images. I see that the aerial view is claimed as pd-self by 93gregsonl2. Is that definitely the case? I'm not doubting anyone's veracity (Actually I'm really envious that 93gregsonl2 can get aerial views like that :-) ) but bearing in mind what's happened on Lostock Hall this needs to be spot on and aerial photopgraphy isn't that common so if anythijng is likely to be questioned, that is. NtheP (talk) 15:25, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks and I will work on those issues soon. Any more suggestions will be very useful. Thanks. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 20:35, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- No offence intended 93gregsonl2, but I think we'll have to sort out some of these images you've uploaded. Some of the ones you claim as your own work appear to have been taken from other websites, while others are copyrighted and do not seem to have permission for their usage here. The last thing we need is another incident like what we had with Pr3st0n. Small-town hero (talk) 20:33, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yes I explained here about the copyrighted claims. I will try and sort them out as soon as I can, I have been quite busy lately and I haven't had time to sort them out... I have time now atually I may do it now. Thanks for notifing me. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 20:52, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- I have just deleted that ariel photo of the village as that was a problem. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 20:54, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, it's good that you want to resolve things. Some images will need to be deleted and not just removed from the article, but I'll continue this on your talk page rather than here. Small-town hero (talk) 21:40, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- I have just deleted that ariel photo of the village as that was a problem. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 20:54, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
