Recent edits

A paragraph relating an historical incident which is sourced has been removed without explanation. This should be discussed here, so I have reverted the removal. I have also removed links to a gallery and to facebook. These are just promotional advertising material which is not acceptable on wikipedia. We are writing an encyclopedia, not a promotional page for the organization. --Bduke (Discussion) 21:46, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest really carefully. Wikipedia articles should not look nice, but be correct, advertising is discouraged and will be removed.
Wikipedia:External links is very clear concerning Facebook and the like: These links are not allowed.
Your edits to the infobox don't work. Styles are unnecessary in infoboxes. --jergen (talk) 22:02, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Uniform question

The article shows a light-blue shirt and dark blue pant as the uniform of Bangladesh scouts. I am curious about this ... I was a scout back in early 90s, and at that time, the uniform we had was of khaki color. Perhaps it is the uniform if a specific scout troop (e.g., air scout, or cub scout??). If anyone can clarify this, it will be great. --Ragib (talk) 22:25, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

The picture shows the current official uniform; many Scouting organizations did change their uniforms in the last years. --jergen (talk) 22:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
@ragib: yes brother this is the current uniform of bd scouts
@Tahmidazuwad: Please use English on the English Wikipedia. --jergen (talk) 22:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Images

the pix which i gave is proper, & they are not copyrighted --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 21:49, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

  • In almost all countries every creative work is protected by copyright since the moment of publication (unless excluded from copyright protection by law, or released by the copyright holder), regardless of whether or not it has a copyright notice. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 21:52, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
  • What images are we talking about? --Bduke (Discussion) 22:06, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Tahmidazuwad did upload some images to Commons, among them the WOSM fleur de lis, some other logos and a couple of pictures taken from the BS-website. At least three of the were deleted over the last days. --jergen (talk) 22:10, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
  • but why are you deleting them??? --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 22:18, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Presumably because they are copyrighted under licences that are not allowed on Commons. For example you uploaded File:PS.jpg, but it is very doubtful whether you hold sufficient rights to do so. It is most likely that this page is copyrighted by the Bangledash Scouts. You might be able to upload it to wikipedia and use it under the "fair use" provisions, but you can not put it up on Commons. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:29, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
  • @bduke: i have the right to use the image, because, i achieved the award+ i have created this image using photoshop --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 22:36, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
You have the right to use it personally, but you almost certainly do not have the right to release it on Commons under an open license. Put it on wikipedia after reading about fair use. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:42, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Tahmid, unless the photographer explicitly releases them to wikipedia under a free license such as GFDL or Creative Commons attribution or Attribution-ShareAlike, the photos cannot be used. The photos do not have to carry a copyright notice ... they are implicitly under copyright. It is your responsibility to prove that the images are not copyrighted. Unless you can do so, the images will be deleted. --Ragib (talk) 22:42, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Edit

During the Bangladesh Liberation War, in April 1971, members of the Bangladesh Boy Scout Association volunteered to carry the mail from the Bangladesh Army field post offices to the nearest Post Office in India--- this is not true, cause Bangladesh scouts was founded in 1972 --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 21:48, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

There were Scouts prior to 1972, so maybe it just needs to be edited to give the correct name. Are you saying Scouts did not do what the paragraph says? --Bduke (Discussion) 22:05, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

@Tahmidazuwad: You can't deny the fact that there were Scouts delivering mail in Bangladesh in 1971, even when the Bangladesh Boy Scout Association was not yet constituted. There is evidence [1]. I believe that Scouting did exist also when today's Bangladesh was part of Pakistan. Is this correct? If yes, we could perhaps adjust the wording of this sentence. --jergen (talk) 22:10, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

@bduke== brother cant you see the images??? do you think this images are of 1971??? bangladesh boy scouts association was founded in 1972, & at the time of war, how can people think of making scout association???

The source claims they are and we follow sources not what you think. Of course, people do not think of making scout association during the war, but there would be Scouts from before the war. The source does admit there are some forgeries, but they indicate that the two shown are not. We follow the sources. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:39, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

@jergen== brother http://www.sossi.org/local/bdesh3.gif in this image we are seeing that the stamps are Pakistan's, but the seal??? Bangladesh how ???

@all--- don't mind brothers, i have achieved the highest award of Bangladesh Scouts, to achieve yhe award i read almost all the books from Bangladesh Scouts, but i never found that Bangladesh Scouts served at the time of our liberation war'1971, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tahmidazuwad (talkcontribs) 22:31, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

So you are saying that there were no Scouting units in today's Bangladesh before the foundation of Bangladesh Scouts? This is very unlikely.
If you don't understand why Pakistani stamps were cancelled in 1971 with Bangladesh, you should read an introduction on the history of Bangladesh, eg. Bangladesh Liberation War. --jergen (talk) 22:34, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
@jergen--- yes brother, there was no unit before the war named Bangladesh Scouts, this org opened after war
i understood, but as i know from my best then there was no any scout association — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tahmidazuwad (talkcontribs) 22:42, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I seriously doubt Tahmid's claim. Pakistan Scouts definitely existed, and there was a jamboree organized in Chittagong in 1958. (the field is still called Jamboree field). For example, these stamps show the existence of scouting movement in erstwhile united Pakistan prior to 1971. So, Tahmid is mistaken. --Ragib (talk) 22:47, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Another source stating the fact of mail service run by Scouts during the independence war: Banglapedia. --jergen (talk) 22:46, 18 January 2011 (UTC)\
@jergen--- here scouts used as spy not boys scouts --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 22:50, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
brother can you read bangla? --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 22:59, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

"Scouting continued in East and West Pakistan as part of the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association until the country was split in the 1970s" - from Pakistan Boy Scouts Association. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:54, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

@bduke--- right brother --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 22:59, 18 January 2011 (UTC) @bduke--- i just want to edit the page again but plz don't revert it :( --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 23:07, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

@ all i think it is better now --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 00:01, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

@bduke- cant we remove the history of the war, as we are not sure of it??? --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 00:14, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

No, you have failed to gain consensus and another source (banglapedia) has been produced which confirms it happening in 1971. I will add that source. Note, that they probably did call them Bangladesh Boy Scouts in 1971, even though the association was only formed in 1972. They would hardly call them Pakistan Boy Scouts when you were at war with Pakistan.

edit

scarf is not ORNA --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 07:46, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Finally

finally i learnt how to upload photos on the wikipedia --Tahmidazuwad (talk) 19:51, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Well done, but you need to give more information to justify the fair use. Look at other examples in other articles. --Bduke (Discussion) 21:17, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
I left some info on his talk page. The preference is to use non-free instead of fair use as latter term can be confusing. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 22:34, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

What is the Full meaning of Scout?

Please answer the question 144.48.108.153 (talk) 09:46, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

I suggest that you need to clearly clarify what you mean by your question! Are you talking about anyone in the Scout Movement or just someone in the Scout Section? Also, why are you asking this question? --Bduke (talk) 10:26, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
