POV
[edit]The article appears to explain the bigger Tamil population here by invoking only poor Tamil immigrants. This approach looks somewhat an attempt to "defend" the reality that Kannadigas are fewer in Bangalore than other parts of Karnataka. I do not say that all this is intentional. But, we need to bring NPOV. I do not know enough of Bangalore's history. But, I would like the details on the impact of over 100 years of Chola rule on the demographic composition of Bangalore. Similarly, we need to mention the rich Mudaliars who were close to the Wodeyars and other rulers. And I'm not sure if Tamil people were brought in here only to "service" military personnell. If you go to Brigade Road, there is a war memorial for soldiers of Mysore Residency who died in wars during 1914. And, the inscriptions are all in Tamil. This shows, in my opinion, that the majority of such soldiers were Tamil. While I admire the recent work done to Bangalore, I would want to ensure that the articles are written with NPOV. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:34, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Update: I assume good faith and hence think that it might have been due to selection bias and not an "attempt." However, I continue to feel that the article as of now does not reflect NPOV. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:13, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough, Sundar, I definately feel any POV that is coming acrosss in the article needs to be addressed. As someone that has never really lived in Bangalore, I tend to rely on research papers and information on the internet for information on the city. Many of these papers are one dimensional in that they deal with specific issues without highlighting the bigger picture. My apologies if the edits indicated a "defence" of one community over another, and as you say, that was not what I intended. AreJay
- Thanks AreJay for trying to bring NPOV and for understanding the true spirit of my comments. If we let even the slightest of POV in the article by accident, nationalists of either side will wreak havoc to the articles when Bangalore is eventually featured on the main page. Let me try to get some more info on the demographics issue. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:46, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Needs lots of work
[edit]Needs upgrading. The article talks about it as if it were a dead cantonment of a bygone era! The military establishment continues to live in Bangalore though reasonably unobtrusively. 10:06, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
