[edit]There are gravestones in the old cemetery with year of death in the mid to late 1800's; so Banat was not "settled by Europeans in 1909". Additionally, the cornerstone of the original school house is dated around 1860; the expansion to a second room was around 1880; the final expansion to modernize the building by providing central heat and electricity occurred around 1930. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.151.2.152 (talk) 08:53, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Banat used to have a rail road that ran through it from the late 1800's to the mid 20th century as well. The tracks are removed and it has since been used as a de facto service road for various private land owners.
Yes, it did have a railroad, but I do not know any details personally, nor have I been able to find any sources on it as of yet. I believe the service road to which you are referring is Cemetery Road/S2 Road (not to be confused with Cemetery Lane). My understanding was that Cemetery Road, known locally as the Right-of-Way, had been a service road utilized by the railroad, but had not been the actual route of the railroad itself. My information could be incorrect. I never knew the actual route of the railroad. It would make some sense for that to have been the route of the railroad. That would mean that the likely location of the rail station had been near the corner of Chalk Hills Road and Cemetery Road. In any event, some reference to the railroad and station should be added to the article.

Perhaps, we should develop a separate, more in depth, history section, then just pare down the intro to some quick basic information on the community. Smiller987 (talk) 04:40, 1 July 2009 (UTC) Smiller987
- Take a look at pretty much any other article about a small community, to see how it is done. I've had quick go at cleaning up the article so it looks more like the house style. Astronaut (talk) 20:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Astronaut, but a generic "look around to see how it's done" response does not really contribute to our efforts to document the history of this place. You did not make any significant edits. If you have something concrete to offer, please do so, but I am assuming from your vague, generic statement that you know nothing about Banat, Michigan, and, therefore, should really just find some other people to annoy. The route of the railroad probably did run right through S2 - I've seen old rail ties along there and read other references that point to the old passenger station being near the intersection of S2 and Chalk Hills Rd (sorry, I do not have any citations to provide) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:B580:0:4D2C:23AC:5107:863F (talk) 09:08, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
