[edit]To whoever left that little gift on my talk page:
- That this is your home town is irrelevant. We come here for factual information, not "humourous contributions" about your home town or any other topic. Wikipedia is not Usenet.
- Please read WP:NPA. And really, it's nothing personal, I just don't care much for vandals.
- If you have any cites for your contributions, kindly provide them. If not, expect them to be taken down.
You will be reported as a vandal if you persist.--Ray Chason 19:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Also note that your description of Dubliners as "scumbags" is contrary to WP:NPOV and possibly WP:NPA as well. If you want to post such content, may I suggest Uncyclopedia.--Ray Chason 20:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Ballyjamesduff.info
[edit]I would not trust anything that comes from the web site http://www.ballyjamesduff.info. At first glance, it might look like an official website, but it's probably written by the same individuals who are mucking about with this article. I claim it is unreliable because (1) it was registered on April 23, 2007, after the suspicious information was called out (which then reappeared using the newly-created web site as a reference); (2) the web site includes such "facts" as "The post office was also robbed by three locals and a white guy" and "Up until 2005, transvestitism was considered a crime in the town... it was only until [26 transvestites] were elected to the town council that they overturned the law". ... discospinster talk 23:20, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
REBUTTAL: On the behalf of the Official Council Representative of Ballyjamesduff,i request that the information be corrected about Ballyjamesduff. Yes our town looks eccentric, but it is what makes us more interesting than others. I would like to see the following things re-added or changed:
The town motto. People always say "Are ya Startin" as a way of saying "are you having a good time?" It dates back to the 1960's when people would always know where a party was going to be. They asked each other if they were starting a party at their place. Hence ,"Are Ya Startin?"
The history of Ballyjamesduff mentioned is true. We have a parchment in Ballyjamesduff's Museum that actually lists all the information given about Seamus Dove. The bit about the backwater should also make sense to you if you could find a map of Cavan and the fact that the main road runs from it to Virginia (and then on to Dublin), leaving Ballyjamesduff a little out of the way.
The mentioning of our town statue is one that i find humourous, but i don't think Fintan Cronin's name needs to be mentioned. And i also think it'd be better to remove the information about arson.
Finally, please put back in the bit about the sport. Yes,our town practises obscure sports, but we should be able to still list our accomplishments as we are all proud about them.
I think you may have made a mistake regarding that website. It seems to me to be pretty accurate in general. It should be restored. Thanking you. The offices of Cllr. Danny Brady & Cllr. Shane O'Reilly
- If you want this information to be included in the article, it must be accompanied by a reference from a reliable source, not a silly website. ... discospinster talk 21:51, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
That stuff on the website is,to the best of my knowledge, true. I believe it should be put back in.Cm619 00:10, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
