Most common use of this term is the verb balked, or to balk, but since this is not a dictionary project, not sure how to indicate that here, beyond the wiktionary link. maybe a sentence and link to wiktionary at the article on the baseball term. You may be thinking of baulk road track, in which the rails are laid on longitudinal timber beams (or baulks) instead of on the more usual transverse ties (a.k.a. sleepers). -- Picapica (talk) 15:19, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
