Cyfal what distinction are you making between castles and forts? I am not sure if you are a native English speaker but what this implies to me is that you think these were large castles with big walls and various buildings? Hi Andrew Lancaster, you're right, of course. I was too hasty and took a look at the images at de:Burg Monterberg and de:Haus Aspel which are clearly castles, not forts – but I didn't realise that these illustrations were from a later time. Thank you very much for drawing my attention to this. I've changed it now again into forts. (Although I'm not a native speaker, I know the difference...)
