POV Problems

[edit]

"What makes Baker the best college on campus are our many long-standing traditions." This is definitely not neutral.

Appears to have been written by a current student who has only a superficial knowledge of the college. Should probably leave the writing of this article to alumni who have a greater appreciation for the college, and would paint a more accurate picture that does Baker justice. There's more than Baker 13 and Upper Fourth - this coming from someone who ran 13 alone and lived in Fourth when it supposedly attained its "legend" status, but also is much more aware of all that is Baker.

Fair use rationale for Image:Baker College Seal.PNG

[edit]

Image:Baker College Seal.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit]

The image Image:RiceU BlueSealLogo.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --20:57, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe someone did a better job than I outlining the fair use rationale for this image, and now it's considered acceptable. If someone wants to go ahead and add it back, since Baker College is officially affiliated with Rice University. Thanks. Hwttdz (talk) 15:43, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed this issue. Kirlinator (talk) 19:01, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To the incoming...

[edit]

Various, established editors and administrators have been cleaning up various Baker College related pages, because much of the content added has been unencyclopedic, useless knowledge that does not significantly assert notability. Nor is Wikipedia free web hosting space. I've also removed the infobox, as it was nothing more than HTML code that, under better circumstances, would be better vested for a template; I'm not seeing a need for it.

Furthermore, be aware that this page has been referenced on Facebook, and is noted at WP:ANI#Rice University residential colleges dispute becomes a Facebook cause. Canvassing and soliciting for support is frowned upon, and meatpuppets can be blocked for disruptive editing, that includes edit warring. If you disagree with how this is being handled, take it to the discussion pages; reverting other editors edits does little to help your issue. seicer | talk | contribs 03:09, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Baker College Crest

[edit]

Interestingly the Baker College crest is registered in the United States Heraldic Registry. Someone should look into 1) obtaining fair use permission for the crest, 2) adding it to the article (hopefully in an infobox similar to the one that was removed), 3) adding a summary of the symbolism of the crest (I believe it can be found at http://bakercollege.net/about.html#crest)

{{editprotect}} Could one of the powers that be please add http://bakercollege.net/ (the official site of baker college) as an external link. It is also likely that this should be used as a reference for many of the unreferenced claims in the article. Hwttdz (talk) 15:14, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll add it but you could do it yourself. Using it as a reference would not be appropriate - self-references are not reliable sources. – ukexpat (talk) 15:17, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops it's protected, adding template to attract admin attention. – ukexpat (talk) 15:19, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks. --Amalthea 17:37, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possible References

[edit]

The University of Texas Library seems to maintain historical records about the residential colleges of Rice University. They have also published a small description of Baker College, while it is not as high quality as a self-published source it gets points for being 3rd party. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/taro/ricewrc/00086/rice-00086.html Hwttdz (talk) 16:15, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
