Techniques
[edit]What were the techniques used in the storytelling of this episode? I think they're important to the story and should be mentioned here. While the fourth wall between the actors and the viewer wasn't necessarily broken, a "fourth wall" between the past and the present was broken, with House even looking directly into the camera, the camera being the window of memory. House and Dr. Nolan also appear within the memory in a sort of A Christmas Carolian omnisciency, and sometimes the memory appears within Dr. Nolan's office. At one point, Taub is brought into a scene in House's deliberate attempt to alter Nolan's imagined version of events. The whole thing is quite theatrical and I'm sure there are names for these techniques. I'm not sure though, even on a very superficial level, how much of this would be considered original research because the techniques used are overly obvious. Just a suggestion. – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 07:11, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
By techniques, do you mean the use of a non-linear storyline, which points out that all stories are stories and so points to the audience, making them self-aware, a part of the narrative, just as Dr. Nolan steps in and out of his role as audience member of and as participant in House's narrative. Along with the cultural references, I liked that this episode used flashbacks/images to tell the story. What is the the point of your question about "original research"? - KateVan 22:05, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
