When Barney starts stealing girls from Marshall (Scorpion and the Toad), Lily is already back in New York, so it doesn't make sense that Barney went to San Francisco and told Lily he couldn't steal girls from Marshall forever, seeing as Lily wasn't living in San Francisco when it was happening. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.118.186.130 (talk) 08:45, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not absolutely sure this is a continuity error. While we first see Barney stealing Marshall's possible girlfriends during a period when Lily has recently returned, it doesn't necessarily mean that Barney wasn't stealing them before. It's certainly likely Barney would continue to try until either Marshall found someone that Barney couldn't steal or Marshall and Lily got back together. In fact, I wonder if the intention of the episode showing Barney stealing Marshall's girlfriends was meant to show that Barney had started a new plan: control any possible interaction between Marshall and other women by being the one to set Marshall up with them and then stealing them. In (Scorpion and the Toad), Barney tells Marshall that he is ready to start picking up women at the start of the episode after Marshall is caught sneaking a peek at Robin. Lily returned to New York the episode previously, meaning Marshall wasn't even thinking about talking with women before Lily came back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.20.168.210 (talk) 02:46, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
