Last Withdrawals date
[edit]In the panels belowthe photo it is stated that the last members of this class were withdrawn in September 1968, but it is stated in many published sources that all standard-gauge BR steam locos were withdrawn in August 1968. It would seem that a correction is needed Barney Bruchstein (talk) 21:37, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- That is a definite error, because the final withdrawals of the Class 4 2-6-0 were in December 1967. It's possible that the editor who added that info was thinking of the Class 4 4-6-0, which lasted until the end of steam. I have a possible explanation as to why September, and not August, has been given: a misunderstanding of how BR kept their records. By 1968, all remaining steam locos were allocated to the London Midland Region, which kept records not to calendar months, but to accountancy periods of four weeks. There were 13 four-weekly periods per accounting year, and the 9th four-weekly period (usually abbreviated to P9) began during August and ended during September. So it is certainly possible that a loco withdrawn in the latter half of August 1968 would be recorded as "withdrawn P9.1968", and somebody didn't realise the significance of the "P". --Redrose64 (talk) 21:58, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit]I have removed the photo in the preservation list as it is very clearly 76017 at Barry. Anyone got a picture of the correct loco? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 16:39, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
