• https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=BMO indicates that in October '23 there was a spread of traffic between BMO (United States) (now "BMO Bank"; listed #2 since 2023), Bank of Montreal (list #1 since 2017 and #2 before that), and List of Adventure Time characters#BMO (list #8). The banking group certainly features prominently, but nobody seemed to mind the full disambiguation since 2010. I'm not sure there's a practical reason to do much now, after we can observe the CA and US interest to be equal. --Joy (talk) 13:43, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

• We can also engage in a comparison with the concurrent RM at Talk:AEG. Over there, there is also a company that is widely recognized as "the" three-letter acronym, but people are saying this basically doesn't apply outside of Europe, and even if the alternate topics outside of Europe aren't clearly comparable, it's still a legitimate argument to make that there isn't a primary topic worldwide. In this case, it seems likewise likely that this BMO company isn't well known outside of North America even if it's known as "the" three-letter acronym there. --Joy (talk) 16:20, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Bank of Montreal is the primary topic by both long-term significance and pageviews. It's certainly not unheard of for a regional entity to be a primary topic. See TVA, for one. 162 etc. (talk) 00:11, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Hmm, I don't think you can make the claim that the average English reader associates the term BMO so strongly with the Bank of Montreal that they're astonished to see a list, when there's an ambiguity both because of a very generic TLA and because of this apparently interesting subsidiary. --Joy (talk) 14:16, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

• Oppose per reasons listed above. It's a fairly generic TLA, and (even if we ignore the utter adorableness of the Adventure Time character) the pageview results seem somewhat split between BMO (United States) and the Bank of Montreal, enough that it's not a complete landslide sweep for the Montreal entry as is implied here. User:Joy puts it well that "In this case, it seems likewise likely that this BMO company isn't well known outside of North America even if it's known as "the" three-letter acronym there." and "I don't think you can make the claim that the average English reader associates the term BMO so strongly with the Bank of Montreal that they're astonished to see a list, when there's an ambiguity both because of a very generic TLA and because of this apparently interesting subsidiary."
