BFI Flipside is due to release Norman J. Warren's 1967 film Her Private Hell (Flipside spine number 022) on February 20, 2012. Originally heavily cut by the BBFC for its UK cinema release, the film is considered to be Britain's first narrative sex film. The BFI Flipside Dual Format Edition (DVD and Blu-ray) will include a new transfer of the film from rare film materials held by the BFI National Archive which was overseen by Norman J. Warren. It will also include 2 early Warren films, Incident (1959) and Fragment (1966), as well as original screen tests (including footage of a young Udo Kier), and a newly-created documentary, Inside Her Private Hell, which features cast and crew interviews. The release also features the rare 1971 documentary The Anatomy of a Pin-Up which was directed by David Cohen and includes interviews with a number of people involved in the nude modelling industry in the 1970s, including Bob Guccione, Lynn Barber, Francoise Pascal, and Julie Ege). All films have been newly-transferred to High Definition, and the release includes an extensive booklet with new essays by BFI Curator Josephine Botting, filmmaker Norman J. Warren, filmmaker David Cohen and critic and writer David McGillivray.
