The place name Etnedal in the Asbjørnsen & Moe version of the Per Gynt tales i not identical to the location of than name i Valdres. According to this article, the bøyg is "a gnome-like creature ... a great troll ... commonly characterized as a giant, slimy serpent"
This is like saying a creature is very much like a horse: it is a large hawk looking like a blue octopus with thick tentacles. In other words, the description is totally incoherent.
