[edit]Wanted to ask you Macosal why you used the name Béni Nkololo and not Bèni Nkololo as appears in the official press release by CCM? --SuperJew (talk) 12:41, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperJew:, firstly, it’s pretty clear that French sources (including the one currently used on this page as a reference) all use “é”. Secondly (and less importantly) my high school level French tells me that “é” makes more sense phonetically here. Seems pretty plausible that the Mariners media guy is battling with the accents! - @Macosal: Thank you :) Maybe the Mariners media guy had a hit of the sauce ;) I'd be interested to hear a little more on the difference between the two "e"s if you have the energy to write a few words about it, since I have no clue (I picked Arabic in high school). --SuperJew (talk) 13:59, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
- I'm speaking outside of my expertise, but É sounds more like "ai" where "È" sounds more like "eh". I can't explain why, but "é" is a lot more frequently used, and "feels" more likely to slot into a word like "Beni" (e.g., Loïc Rémy) - to the extent that "Bèni" looks odd/strange. I'm sure a native speaker could do a far better job of explaining the nuances but I guess for me it comes down to "it's the vibe". Macosal (talk) 13:35, 28 August 2021 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Thanks! :D --SuperJew (talk) 19:48, 28 August 2021 (UTC)
- I just noticed that in the graphic that accompanied the press release, it was written "Béni" --SuperJew (talk) 06:54, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
