All Proofs
[edit]This quote seems to be frequently misattributed to House Corrino. It "first" appears in Children of Dune (page 150 in my Ace paperback printing), and is linked there with only "[the Bene Gesserit's] own manuals". I haven't read House Corrino, so I'm not saying the reference is spurious, but is probably just a(nother) retcon in that book / series. Dfrauzel 07:59, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean about misattribution, but I believe you're referring to this CoD quote:
The members of the Bene Gesserit delegation had wanted to know if she required proofs of their allegations. She'd given them an angry answer out of their own manuals: "All proofs inevitably lead to propositions which have no proof! All things are known because we want to believe in them."
- To me, these "manuals" may or may not be the Azhar book itself, so it's presumptuous to include the quote. --TAnthony 12:33, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, the Dune Encyclopedia describes the Azhar Book as an open-ended multivolume collection of works and miscellany filling 'several rooms', and suggests it is basically the sole source for their theological training - so 'manuals' is a perfectly adequate description of the Azhar Book. --Gwern (contribs) 01:32 8 October 2007 (GMT)
- Right, you can call the Azhar "manuals" but we can't assume that the Azhar was what Frank was referring to in the quote; I never like using the DE to interpret the actual books, for obvious reasons. TAnthony 01:53, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Prelude epigraphs
