Annihilation of the Past, redux

It is very concerning that Wikipedia editors keep destroying old information about commercial (and other) entities just because a company was acquired or merged. AXA is a huge conglomerate and amalgam of insurance entities, including The Equitable and Mutual of New York (MONY), both of which were founded almost 200 years ago and have long histories.

The MONY page (I assume it existed but have no way of telling) is now just a redircct to AXA, where it is given nothing but a note about its acquisition. Why can't the original MONY information persist, with a note and link at the top of the page to indicate that it was acquired by AXA. What is the point of eliminating history?

The Equitable is now reduced to a short history section under a page called AXA Holdings. Why?

This keeps happening, but I frankly don't understand it. Editors, please please please stop redirecting things out of existence.

Capitalization of name

The policy in MOS:TM is clear: if the name of a company is not an acronym, Wikipedia's house style is to write it normally, even if the company themselves usually style it in all capitals.

Axa is not an acronym.
