“Suggested changes to ‘Aviva PLC' Wikipedia page"
About Us
Hello,
I work in the communications division at Aviva and would like to propose some changes to our Wikipedia article.
There are some factual updates that I’d like to make as the current information is no longer up to date: WP:NPOV
Please note that the numbers in the square brackets represent the citations in the current Wikipedia article.
Many thanks,
Hayley

Current paragraph 1:
Aviva plc is a British multinational insurance company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It is the sixth-largest insurance company in the world measured by net premium income and has around 43 million customers across 21 countries.[3] It is the market leader in both general insurance and life and pensions in the UK and has major businesses in Asia, continental Europe and North America.[3]
Suggested paragraph 1:
Aviva plc is a British multinational insurance company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It has around 31 million customers across 16 countries.[3] In the UK Aviva is the largest general insurer and a leading life and pensions provider. In addition, Aviva has a focus on five markets in Europe and, in Asia, the company is focused on the growth markets of China and South East Asia. Aviva is also the second largest general insurer in Canada.
Citation: We are no longer the sixth largest insurer in the world so please remove this reference.

Current paragraph 6:
During March 2005 Aviva acquired the RAC plc breakdown recovery operation for around £1.1 billion.[12]
Suggested paragraph 6:
Aviva no longer owns RAC; therefore please can we either delete the reference to the RAC or explain that the business was sold in 2011 – for example:
Aviva sold RAC to The Carlyle Group in 2011 for £1 billion, valuing RAC at 17 times 2010 net earnings.

Current paragraph 7:
In July 2006, Aviva greatly increased its presence in the United States by acquiring AmerUs Group, a Des Moines-based financial services company founded in 1896 in a $2.9 billion (£1.6 billion) deal.[13] AmerUs Group was rebranded as Aviva USA when the acquisition was completed.
Suggested paragraph 7:
Aviva sold this business in 2013; therefore, please can we either remove this paragraph or explain that Aviva no longer owns this business – for example:
In December 2012, Aviva agreed to sell Aviva USA Corporation to Athene Holding for US$1.8 billion (£1.1 billion) as part of a plan to improve shareholder returns and reduce the group's capital requirements.[21][22] The sale completed October 2013 for US$2.6bn (£1.7bn). The proceeds were US$0.8bn higher than announced on 21 December 2012, and represented estimated earnings and other improvements in statutory surplus over the period from 30 June 2012 to 30 September 2013. Athene subsequently sold the life insurance business of Aviva to Atlantic Global.[23]

Current paragraph 16:
Aviva's main activities are the provision of general and life insurance, long-term savings products and fund management services. The group has around 36,600 employees, £379 billion of assets under management and 43 million customers.[3]

Current paragraph 21:
CEO Richard Harvey retired on 11 July 2007. His successor was Andrew Moss, the former group finance director.[24] Moss was paid an annual base salary of £925,000 for his role as Chief Executive.[25] Moss resigned on 8 May 2012 after shareholders voted down a proposed senior management pay deal which would have seen Moss increase his basic pay by 5% despite several years of Aviva underperformance.[26] John McFarlane was appointed to the board of Aviva plc in September 2011. Following the departure of Aviva’s CEO, Andrew Moss,[26] McFarlane assumed the role of executive deputy chairman and became executive chairman on 1 July 2012. On 20 November 2012, Aviva announced that Mark Wilson will become CEO on 1 January 2013.[27]

Feedback
If you could give us some feedback we’d be most grateful, so we can best know to how to approach making any changes if it’s appropriate.
Thanks --HayleySandford (talk) 09:23, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- I think I have made most of the changes. It looks as if the purchase and sale of RAC and the purchase and sale of Aviva USA are already shown properly. I have not bothered with the list of former subsidiaries (very few other articles do this) and I have tweaked the paragraph about Mark Wilson. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:13, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
