Quick Question

First half of discussion archived here.

ok, 1. Fyre, you arent one of the 3, so dont worry. 2. Proto, that was not the one I was bringing up. I believe, well, I know, it was on a different page. Just a respons that I got. And it has been delt with. But, since yo brought it up, quick question for you: Why did you have to open up a whole new page, saying that I had no show-info? When I even told the episodes that I got my info from. 3. As to why, well, come to my original topic first. It was only to a topic that was replied to, in a rude way. But as I said, it has been taken care of, by the person I had the problem with. ~Sayasha

"Why did you have to open up a whole new page, saying that I had no show-info?" I haven't the faintest clue what you're talking about. Where is this new page? –Prototime (talkcontribs) 20:58, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Scary that you dont know.... well, heres the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender#Zuko.27s_Age ~Sayasha

Actually Sayasha, that was put up around the exact same time as the argument put up at Zuko's talk page. That's why you should sign your posts with the four tildes ~~~~ so we can see dates. And it's easy to forget what page you are referencing. The Wikiproject workers go through about 40 some pages a day, it's hard to remember where things are usually. H2P 21:13, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
As H2P pointed out, that discussion dates back all the way back to the original conflict, as evidenced by the dates in our signatures. Nothing new has been started by anyone else concerning the issue since its conclusion months ago, short of the newly-recreated revert war that's now going on at the Prince Zuko page. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 21:19, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
(Looks up) Ya, I think i said soemthing about the part that this wasnt posted about the Zuko's Age thing originally... And it was never ment to inply it. Proto, you are the one who truely brought that to this page. And H2P, I know about all the date stuff, and I read the dates to. I just dont do he 4 ~'s, because I dont want to. But I do see the dates. ~Sayasha
(Dubling, problably yes, but oh well) posted this, shortly after what I posted on your page, H2P. Mainly regarding the same area, as listed in your talk page. It was about nothing more then that. Never ment to be Zuko's age. ~Sayasha
Okay, well, despite you not originally wanting to bring this issue up, I still would like to know why there's a revert war going on again at Zuko's page. That second discussion on the WikiProject page was not meant to be hidden from you or used as something to insult you behind your back, and I don't see how your recent discovery of it should spark you to recreate this war. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 21:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, on that, as it sits now, I just want to know why no one considered talking to me on a 1-1 bassis, or even why I was being talked about on the page, like I was some kind of person who loves to mess with things. ~Sayasha
That second discussion wasn't started with malevolent intent (or at the very least not on my part, and I suspect it's the same with the other editors), nor was it meant to personally attack you, but it was designed to be a brainstorming area for refutations to your argument. The discussion was meant to serve as a communication medium for several like-minded editors who disagreed with your logic to come up with the best argument against your case--and you could have always interjected there as well, or started your own discussion with editors who were like-minded to you on another page for your own purposes. I most certainly wouldn't have been offended if you did that; after all, we all have the same goal, and that's to make Wikipedia the best it can be (which obviously requires communication), and I always assume good faith. For my part, though, I apologize if anything I said there offended you. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 21:44, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I get what your saying. Thank you, and I apologize (Even though I cant spell it) for any content that gets anoying. And as for whats going on on the Zuko page, I have no clue. i havent been on in a while, so I cant tell the least. SOrry. ~Sayasha
Ah, my mistake. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 21:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Elements and Seasons

Is there any correlation with the seasons and the elements? I'm wondering this because during Winter, the Book of Water focuses on Aang learning Waterbending. The same goes with Spring and Earthbending and I assume with Summer and Firebending. I'm just wondering this because it seems that there is.--InsaneZeroG 22:39, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Most likely, but we dont have enough information to confirm it. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 22:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

The Avatar Cycle mirrors the seasons. The following text is an except from the official Nick.com website (click on one of the nation's symbols on the map, and after the new page opens, click on the "The Avatar" tab up top in order to find this text):

"There is only one Avatar, who reincarnates himself through the centuries. Each time the Avatar dies it is reborn into the next nation. This successive cycle mirrors the order of the seasons:

  • Water Tribes - winter
  • Earth Kingdom - spring
  • Fire Nation - summer
  • Air Nomads - autumn

The cycle provides a natural balance between the elements. This way, no single nation can grow stronger than another."

If the relationship between the elements and the seasons is any deeper than this, however, we do not presently know. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 00:55, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

What Avatar was Aang? I thought he was Fire. 4myself4 23:33, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Nope, he's an Airbender, hence the title "The Last Airbender". JBK405 00:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I see. Gotcha. 4myself4 22:47, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Why insist on these hacked (or at least unpublished) episodes?!

I have noticed lately that there have been episode edits to include UNANNOUNCED episodes from the IMDb and other unreliable, unpublished sources, it's leading me to think that this page should be semi-protected again. I have edited some things back to the published (or at least known) episodes. As a reader, if i had not read the talk pages beforehand, I would easily assume these episodes were "real". Whydoit 19:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

We can't keep it permanetly locked. These editors are getting a hard-on from doing this harassing and they just keep coming back. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 19:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Airbender in opening title.

OK, its time we do this the right way, instead of revert warring. The fact in question is the claim that the Airbender shown in the opening title sequence is Aang. Some maintain that it is, others maintain that is not, and still others maintain that it is indeterminate.

My opinion: it might be Aang. However, "might be" does not belong on Wikipedia. I would ask, then, that the editors who believe, with certainty, that the figure is Aang explain here why they do. Remember, Wikipedia only works when we have discussion.--Fyre2387 03:36, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

i tried to get a good shot of the guy's face, and the best one i could get is [1]

Since I added the "do not change this" note, I've been using this picture as a reference to the facial hair argument. [2]. This one helps a little too [3]. When comparing this one [4] with the pictures of Aangs head as seen on the page, Aang's head is a lot rounder where as the one portrayed here is must more oval and sharp. I'm gonna take Fyre's stance on this one. I don't believe it's Aang, and I'll defend it completely, but it could be Aang and I could be wrong. But I have a myspace forum that I can direct you too that has debated it and the fact that it is debated means that we don't know and therefore can't put up the conclusion that it is Aang. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 05:22, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Those pictures pretty much convince me that the Airbender has facial hair. But if not Aang (when older, perhaps), and not Monk Gyatso (who I don't think was ever shown in the young monk robes that Aang & this Airbender wear), is it possible that he could be just a generic monk who wasn't introduced in the episodes? As such he would still represent the Air Nomads and the Air element in the title sequence. Of course, his identity could be revealed in a future episode, which shouldn't be forgotten as an option. --Tryforceful 07:36, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

At this point I think we should just make sure to keep it so that the airbender not given a name. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 08:38, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I agree with the generic monk idea, those pictures show a mustache that is pretty easy to see, and to me (for some odd reason)the monk in the opening sequence seems to be older than Aang, for now I think that it's best to not identify him as of yet (if at all). --Whydoit 01:46, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Since some seem determined to ignore it, let me say this again: stop changing the article to say the Airbender is Aang. It WILL be reverted. If you really think it is, prove it here. Thanks. --Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 23:14, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Note: Moved to Talk:Avatar: The Last Airbender media information#Airbender in opening title., post any further comments there. Virogtheconq 01:27, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

It looks like the airbender in the opening is monk Gyatsu User:pride, kinji

Earthbender in title opening

Why couldnt it be Haru? I dont see it looking anything like boulder, and the figure has the same hairstyle as Haru as well...

It looks more like the Boulder than Haru. Haru isn't some bearded, bulked up body builder with short hair. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 20:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

My first impression of it (after looking carefully to try to tell who it was) was the boulder, but I don't think that they would put him in there, because he isn't very significant.

Edited for grammar and style.

After reading Wikipedia for quite some time, I finally decided to register. Actually, I edited this article for grammar and style before I registered, and edited it even further after I registered. I hope this is alright with everyone who registered before me and edited this article before me. I would just like to see it at its grammatical and stylistic best. Cheers. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by comme le lapin (talkcontribs) .

GA Re-Review and In-line citations

Note: This article has a small number of in-line citations for an article of its size and subject content. Currently it would not pass criteria 2b.
Members of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles are in the process of doing a re-review of current Good Article listings to ensure compliance with the standards of the Good Article Criteria. (Discussion of the changes and re-review can be found here). A significant change to the GA criteria is the mandatory use of some sort of in-line citation (In accordance to WP:CITE) to be used in order for an article to pass the verification and reference criteria. It is recommended that the article's editors take a look at the inclusion of in-line citations as well as how the article stacks up against the rest of the Good Article criteria. GA reviewers will give you at least a week's time from the date of this notice to work on the in-line citations before doing a full re-review and deciding if the article still merits being considered a Good Article or would need to be de-listed. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on the Good Article project talk page or you may contact me personally. On behalf of the Good Articles Project, I want to thank you for all the time and effort that you have put into working on this article and improving the overall quality of the Wikipedia project. Agne 04:18, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

PS: I would also work on incorporating the Trivia section into some segment of the main article. Agne 04:18, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

The drill?

Ive edited in many pages noting the drill where it is a link thingy that leads to an article about a tunnel boring machine. Is that OK? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.160.145.3 (talkcontribs) .

That is fine, but it was not needed because it was already stated in the episode's notes. Whydoit 03:38, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Previous Avatars

As we know the Avatars are a line of powerful benders with the ability to master all of the elements.

So far, we know that:

-Aang is an Avatar and is an Airbender -Avatar Roku was the Firebender Avatar before Aang -Avatar Kyoshi was the Earthbender Avatar before Roku. -Before Kyoshi was a Waterbender that appeared to be from the Northern Water tribe as indicated by his garmets -Before that Avatar was a Female Airbender

Are there any indications about the names of these avatars?

Purpender 19:08, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know (and I would say my knowledge on the subject is fairly complete), those Avatars have not yet been named, or their names have not been revealed. --Herald Alberich 20:27, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

We know that Avatars go in a defined cycle, but I'd have to look up and watch the episode to find out what the cycle is. I think it's Earth->Water->Fire->Air, but I might have Water and Earth backwards. KenshinSayAra? 04:26, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

You do. Water, Earth, Fire, Air. --Tryforceful 05:17, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure you see them twice, once as statues in the temple, and once when Roku tells Aang about the Avatar state. Krissyishere 02:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Error

In THe avatar spirit When azula attacks zuko at one point she makes this major scrach right before she makes lighting. where do I put this? (note currently whathing the episode on turbonick)Djf2014 22:35, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

You mean when Azula scratches Zuko's head with her fingernails? I wouldn't call that a "major scratch," as it does not leave scars in any subsequent episodes, and if I recall correctly, had already disappeared when Zuko cut his hair at the end of the episode. Certainly it's not worth mentioning in the main article. --Herald Alberich 03:54, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Naming convention

This was discussed in the Archive, but I want to refresh the consensus on the fact since I haven't been around in a while. What is capitialized and what is not?

So far I understand that Benders, that is the people who bend, are capitalized. For example: "Zuko is a Firebender."

The act/art of bending by itself is not capitalized. For example, "Aang, an Airbender, uses airbending to protect his friends from other hostile Benders."

I think this first convention was adopted based on how Nickelodeon initially did it on their official website for Avatar. I don't know if it's still that way, but I like this convention so far. --Crisu 16:15, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Only 3?

hey I was wondering if there were only going to be 3 books (season). If so please post it in the introduction in the article Avatar: The last Airbender.

Well, we would if we knew. That would seem to make sense given the storyline, but any mention at this point would be speculation, and even if the creators announce that the story will end after book three, we don't know whether Nick will order another season until the show is completely over and done with. --Herald Alberich 22:39, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
There are only three because Nickelodeon only orderd two more when the found that the first season was very succesfull. The 4th book could always be added at a later date. Alfatrion 15:08, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I thought there were 4. We'll find out. 4myself4 22:58, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

The fact that there are only 3 styles of bending for Aang to learn doesn't limit the shows run. For all we know, they might start a brand new avatar season featuring a new avatar after Aang has defeated the fire lord (if he does...)

I thought there were four but then I was like... but wait he only needs to master fire... So maybe a fourth book could be about defeating the fire lord.

aang's skills as referenced in Katara's entry

Hello,

Under Katara's discription, it says that her new goal is to teach a much 'slower learning' Aang water-bending. In the episode with the water scroll, Aang seems to be a natural where Katara struggles with the skills.

Are there other references to his learning that I've missed?

Thanks

24.75.200.70 03:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

In "Siege of the North," after Aang and Katara begin tutelage under Master Pakku, Katara quickly rises to the top of the class while Aang lazes about making snowmen. He probably could have learned more quickly than Katara, but he didn't. In "The Avatar State," Pakku gives Katara the task of completing Aang's training. --Herald Alberich 04:31, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

moving some of the front matter down a paragraph

It seems to me that the front paragraph is filled with a lot of information about where Avatar airs that might be best set after a description of the show itself.

Example: "Avatar: The Last Airbender (known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang in the UK, Brazil, India and New Zealand) is an American animated television series airing on Nickelodeon. Set in a fantastic, Asian-influenced world of martial arts and elemental magic, Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the adventures of Aang, the successor to a long line of Avatars, and his friends Katara, Sokka and later Toph, and their two animal companions Appa and Momo in their quest to save the world from the merciless Fire Nation, while avoiding capture from pursuers including Prince Zuko and other hunters from the Fire Nation.

"Originally slated to start November 2004, it debuted on TV February 21, 2005 and has also become available on iTunes. Produced at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California, and animated in South Korea (where many animated television series are animated), it was co-created and executive produced by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. In the United States, new episodes air Friday nights at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the Nickelodeon cable network. New seasons of Avatar begin in the spring and episodes are rerun in the summer; new episodes return in the autumn and the season ends in early winter."

--Choi9999 04:21, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, yeah, I like this better. Right now the description of the actual show is kinda lost in between the technical details and the ratings info. I'll switch it tomorrow if no one objects, or someone else can do it, of course. --Herald Alberich 04:34, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Done. --Herald Alberich 17:41, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Appa and the Catbus

I see the similarity, but can we source this claim? I had to work hard to get the Miyazaki section accepted as part of the page, and I'd hate to see the whole thing removed because of one unsourced comment. Thanks. Kelvingreen 08:36, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

It's hard to source it. You can find the interview on the DVD Box set of Avatar. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 14:10, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Can't you just put in the article that it was stated in the DVD? Abby724 17:25, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Concerned with article words...

Okay, I'm going to edit the page, and remove the links to obvious, everyday articles. I doubt you can find a fluent English speaker who doesn't know what November is. Also, is inventiveness a true English word? I'm guessing that if it's not, then there might be other words in there that aren't official English words. Abby724 17:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Dates should always be linked. That's because linking them allows the reader's chosen date preference to work. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers) for more.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 18:12, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Help with the Game page

I could use some help fleshing out the Video Game Page. Seeing that the Game is on sale now, it's time to update the page a bit.
