[edit]Would a native give us an authoritative pronunciation of this town's name?--Fitzaubrey 15:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
The town's name is pronounced "Of Oz" ... as in the 1939 movie about Dorothy and Toto, "The Wizard __ __ ." 67.86.15.145 00:11, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is suspicious of blogspot.com, but this reference by a literate, well-spoken native is the only citation of the local pronunciation of this place that I've been able to find. I think it will do until someone finds something putatively more reliable. He starts with "of Oz" but then says the vowel in the second syllable is more like that in "gauze", and that's what I've put into the article. The two vowel sounds are very close, and might be identical in some other regional accents. These subtle vowel colorations must drive learners of English mad. --Kbh3rdtalk 04:09, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
The US Census Bureau may call it part of the Jefferson City Metro, but in reality that definition is very generous. Colloquially people would say same region but not same metro. People in the area would say that the JC Metro area (if there is such a thing) consists of Holts Summit, St. Martins, and maybe Wardsville. If anything Auxvasse should be considered in the Columbia metro. Columbia has about 3x the population and is closer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.21.190.1 (talk) 14:26, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
