[edit]Maybe you could add info about evolution and classification of the insect. I'm sure you can find something like an explanation of the name behind the beetle. Also there really isn't much in the behavior section. Most of it is focused on eusociality.Dudas 91 (talk) 21:36, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Edits on Behavior Section
[edit]I have made edits to this page in terms of grammar and sentence structure. I also added some links where appropriate. I changed A. incompertus to Austroplatypus incompertus because Wikipedia prefers that all species names be the same throughout the paper. Peer Review
[edit]- Is there a source for the first paragraph under ‘Eusociality’
- In the fourth paragraph under “hypotheses for evolution of eusociality,” the citation for (12%) should be at end of sentence
- Add info to talk page.
Overall, clear and easy to understand. Pocketkings (talk) 08:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Peer Review Oct 2013
[edit]The page seems to have broad facts about Austroplatypus incompertus and is well laid out for the most part. The Behavior section seems to be lacking in depth. It really only talks about eusociality and much of that is rather unspecific to A. incompertus. It’s probably better to link to the Eusociality Wikipedia page than write about eusociality in very general terms on an organism specific page. It would be nice to add info about foraging behavior or nest foundation and nest building. Those often tend to be quite specific to ants and often very distinctive.Dudas 91 (talk) 23:04, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
I added hyperlinks and added information to the section on eusociality. I also rearranged the sections to make the article more coherent. This article could definitely use some more pictures, but I recognize that that is difficult to do due to copyright laws. Rosemaryshanley (talk) 00:32, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
"This has led to the hypothesis that eusociality in colonies with a single female gamergate assists in maximizing offspring of a related individual."
I could be wrong, but 'female gamergate' seems out of place, perhaps a case of vandalism. Can we remove the word gamergate, so that the sentence makes sense? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.82.103.163 (talk) 03:35, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Possible Additions
[edit]Hello,
After reading this entry, I have a few suggested modifications for its structure:
There are three potential category additions to this entry that I would suggest: life cycle, diet, and mating. A life cycle section is already included, but it shares this heading with the description section. By separating these two categories, the information can be disambiguated and the organization improved. Secondly, this article lacks a dietary section, which could improve the scope of the entry. Finally, the article does not have a mating section. This could be included as a subsection of the life cycle category, which again could enhance the entry's comprehensiveness.
All the best,

General Comments
[edit]This article gives a really thorough and informative overview of the beetle’s physiological characteristics, behavioral patterns, and life cycle. It was very impressive how robust the Behavior section of the article was. I thought the information on eusociality, particularly the various hypotheses for causes of eusociality, was very interesting. One thing I would like to learn more about is the symbiotic relationship this beetle has with fungi. I wonder how this relationship developed and think the article could elaborate more on this. Feedback
[edit]This entry on the Austroplatypus incompertus, or the ambrosia beetle, provides a comprehensive review with information ranging from its habitat to behaviors. I appreciate how this entry provides lots of details about the beetle’s behavior, such as parenting behavior, mating, and social structure. I also enjoyed reading the section about the ambrosia beetle’s eusocial behavior, which is relatively rare in beetles. Furthermore, this entry does a great drop of investigating eusociality in in ambrosia beetle further by discussing hypotheses for how eusociality might have evolved in this species. Overall, this is a great article about the ambrosia beetle. I would suggest to lengthen the lead section. Usually longer entries like this one contain around 3-4 paragraphs in the lead sections to provide a brief overview of the sections that are discussed in the entry. Another suggestion is to provide more information about the beetle’s interaction with humans. For example, it would be helpful to list examples of where and when ambrosia beetles acted as pests and their impacts on humans (such as economy, crop yield, etc.)
Here are some edits I made to this entry:
- Added hyperlinks to certain terms to better integrate this article into Wikipedia.
- Edited section names so that they match the sections provided in the beetle topic order sheet.
- Changed the order of sections to match the section order provided in the beetle topic order sheet.
- Moved the in-text citation for some references that were located in the middle of a sentence to the end of the sentence.

I fixed some minor issues that were mostly capitalization and formatting issues. Furthermore, I simplified some citations. Oftentimes the same citation would be used multiple times in a paragraph or section with no other citations interrupting. So, I simplified and removed unnecessary citations. Furthermore, I added a parasites section to explain how the fungal gardens often get destroyed. I changed very little, as the article overall was very well written and a good read. It covered a wide range of topics and was genuinely enjoyable. Beetles4life (talk) 04:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
