Record attendance
[edit]There are no references for, and no evidence that I can find to back up, the claim that 32,789 people ever attended an AFL match in Canada. Where did this claim come from and can it be backed up? It seems highly unlikely this event happened and as such, the claim should be removed - this is not an AFL propaganda site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.186.228.9 (talk) 00:06, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, whether or not you'd like to believe it there is evidence here. That is from Foxtel, which as I am sure you are aware are a major broadcast sports channel in Australia. Unless they are some tabloid that reports only made up stories, they would have fact checked this. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:53, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
No photos, newspaper articles or anything else more substantial than a 'Did You Know' box on an unrelated story? I don't believe that the field dimensions of BC Place Stadium were large enough for a game of Australian Rules, anyway. Still no evidence to support the claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.186.228.9 (talk) 23:17, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- It happened in 1987 and the Canadian papers don't have online archives that far back. The attendance isn't listed here, but BC Place's website verifies that it occurred. Here's a photo of it from The Province, a daily Vancouver paper. The gallery is here find that picture and the caption repeats it. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 21:48, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
